RAM charger delayed again for extended quality validation

Stellantis confirmed the news in a statement to Crain’s, saying the delay was due to “extending the quality validation period.”


A company spokesperson explained in an email that Stellantis “continues to reassess its product strategy in North America to align it with our competitive advantage with the Range Extended Ram and in light of slowing consumer demand for half-ton BEV pickups.”

After pulling the PHEV Ramcharger ahead of the EV pickup last year, Stellantis blamed weak demand for electric trucks.

First,.I have no interest in owning a RAM. Still I have to wonder if that after introduction of the EV Charger, and how poorly it's selling, and how poor it seems to be as an EV, if they realized they better do a hell of allot better job. Much like Toyota is figuring out now.

I would check out the PHEV Ramcharger - looks like a good option for those that need towing distance as part of their truck use.
Any new to market product will certainly have some growing pains, I prefer to wait a few years and let them work out any bugs the first release may have.

Given their track record with the Pacifica Plug in Hybrid, probably a good thing. That thing has so many gremlins.

My daughter had a 2018 Pacifica that she just traded in on a new 2025 after 12x,xxx relatively trouble free miles. Most dealers don’t seem to want to sell the PHEV version, so ones on the lot can be had at really good prices.

Guess I'm in the minority of actually liking Ram. Have a 2020 Laramie, 2016 Tacoma and a 2023 Lightning. Purchased the Ram mainly to pull the boat since it was way too much for the Tacoma but the V8 actually seems to get better mileage. Just got back from a trip to FL. and averaged about 17mpg on the trip down due to a pretty substantial headwind but got 19 on the way back. Also managed 26.2mpg on a day trip to key west granted that was mostly 50-60mph speeds or so since I avoided taking the turnpike on the way down. Still pretty low mileage at only around 50k in 5 years but no issues so far. Uncle has a 2500 with the 6.4 that was purchased a little after mine and has been driven quite a bit more which has been trouble free as well.

Not quite sure how interested I'd be in the Ramcharger though since the generator just adds more complexity and maintenance.

While the big legacy automakers struggle, along comes Slate with a basic EV pickup that converts to an SUV.

Not everyone's cup of tea, but nobody else (except the Chinese) make a vehicle in the Slate price range...yet.

Legacy automakers may be suffering from 'group-think.'

Maybe they should have started with a basic EV truck (like the Slate) then moved up from there in a progressive fashion, lay the foundation first, the way Henry Ford started out with the Quadricycle Runabout, then hit gold with the Model A and eventually made their first truck the Model TT (1917).

That way they could learn from experience, beta test systems and come up with improvements that work, software that isn't buggy.

Not saying they have to reinvent the wheel exactly, just maybe reinvent the pickup truck.

Nobody wants a hiccup truck.

I loved my 2500 Ram - just not the fuel costs...LOL.
The Ramcharger would seem like a better option than owning two or three trucks to do what ya need, (each one costing you for maintenance and insurance) as long as Ram get the details right, don't leave you stranded.

In fairness... every one of these assholes has promised an affordable vehicle, and they either got pulled out from under everyone, or were basically unobtainable (Ford's 2022 Lightning PRO).

Starting price basically means bullshit price these days.

This isn't a dig at you, but not one of these companies has made good on their "upcoming" pricing.
