For the first year, the remote start in Ford Pass worked awesome. Ever since the last OTA update however, my truck seems to enter the battery saver power down mode overnight at much warmer temperatures than before (one night of -15C now compared to multiple nights of -30C before) and, as a result, won’t connect with the remote start through the app. Anyone else experiencing a similar issue and found a work around? Would be nice to be able to actually use the remote start feature when it’s cold…

12v battery may be getting weak.

I’m a big advocate of putting Bluetooth battery monitors on all vehicles batteries. They give you the ability to check current and historical 12v SOC instantly. That provides great information for use in understanding what is happening with your battery.

Also, it looks like you’ve got a ā€˜24. If you have two key fobs you can program a key fob from a 24 Superduty and the remote start function will work even when the truck is in battery saver mode. If you do this, make sure to get a key fob that uses the same frequency as your existing fobs.

I got that same message today too for the first time ever. 12v battery was replaced last year in December 24.
truck sat for two days in the low 20’s.
Went off after I drove it a few miles this afternoon.

These are both great suggestions, thanks! I like the alternate fob solution as it would be convenient to have both options for remote start. I assume that means you lose the frunk button but don’t use that much anyways.

Are you plugged in at night on level 2?

What brand of evse are you using?
Curious because it should keep the 12v charged unless you have the evse programed to only be active for certain times.

My 12v is going but only when I'm parked off the charger for hours in the cold.

It’s a ā€œdumbā€ version of the Grizzl-e.

Would having preferred charge times in the Ford Pass app impact that? I have it set to charge from 9pm-8am but assumed since that was programmed on the vehicle side rather than the charger it would override and draw if needed since the charger is always available.

Yes, the remote start button instead of the frunk button. This is one of the fobs that I use.

The 12V battery will be charged when the truck is actively charging. Just having it plugged in will not have any effect on the 12V battery.

With regard to level 2 charging window, if you tightened up the period so that the HVB is charged closer to leave time, that might ensure the 12v is higher in SOC, you need to calculate the required kWh and adjust the starting time dynamically if you have a variable daily usage.

I had the same thing happen for the first time yesterday 33K. Two days without driving temapature out side 20 degrees night 32 daytime. Tried to use the app to warm up truck and the app indicated battery save mode, drive for a few minutes.

I used the FOB to unlock doors with no problem, drove 20 minutes and it went away.

Interested if it is 12V going bad, if so I have 3K left on full warranty and would like to replace it.

Winter: a good time to think seriously about putting the 12v on a trickle charger/maintainer with an AGM mode, worth the $30-$40 investment in my book.
