Here's a curiosity: a cabinet of Tesla-branded equipment at the Electrify America charging station in Newburgh, NY. They've tried to tape over the Tesla logo on the front of the chassis but the builder's plate is unobscured.

Not quite sure what this is. It might be the charger/inverter from a PowerPack.

Not this one! It's a block from a Supercharger and has only CCS (350 and 150kW) handles and one lonely Chademo handle.

I remember reading a year or two ago that either EA or EVGo was using Tesla power packs to peak shave high loads when multiple 800v vehicles charge simultaneously.

It raises voltage from 480 three phase to what I assume to be 900 VDC.

This is a Tesla utility-grade power pack and charger/inverter. It is designed to flatten grid demand to lower demand-charge costs at the chargers. It isn't related to Tesla superchargers.

Commercial consumers of electricity pay "demand charges" based on how much they have drawn at once, in addition to total kWh. This allows them to keep their demand charges on the grid down by flattening their usage from the grid.

The 900V aspect of it is the battery pack. The equipment charges a 900V battery at a steady pace, then discharges it when required through the inverter to supply 480V, 3ph. Externally, it does not supply 900V to anything.

Tesla doesn't build any 800V vehicles. But it sounds like as so often happens, @FlasherZ has the answer - the PowerPack itself is what has the 900V battery architecture.

It's usually better to have more power.

Seems to be next gen specs. Unless they somehow get super batteries that can charge way way faster.
