I just had a blowout in one of my Hankook OEM tires. They have about 19k miles on them. I have never been crazy about these tires and thinking about going with a whole new set. Anyone have set of tires they recommend that are grippy, but still efficient? Are the OEM Grabbers worth a look or maybe the Michelin Defender?

My OEM tires are Goodyear Wrangler Territory HT. Load range 116T, electric vehicle certified. They are quiet, and after 10k miles are wearing normally. They are on stock Lariat wheels. They are shown on sticker as all terrain, but I think the HT means highway tread. Probably real AT tires would have more road noise. For me quiet is better.

Were the Hankooks getting worn, I wonder why the blowout. Not normal for a legal tread depth tire.

The outside edge of the tread seemed to be getting a little too worn. The tread was still good. The blowout happened completely within the smooth portion of the sidewall not near the tread. PSI was 38-40 at the time. There is some construction nearby my house where it happened, but I didn’t see or hear anything when it happened. I ended up going with the Michelin Defenders btw. So far, they at least feel better than the Hankooks. Hopefully, they will be an upgrade in efficiency.

It kind of depends on where you live. the Grabbers are a good 3 season tire, but I was not a fan of their winter / snow performance so I switched to Cooper Road and Trail. They cost me some efficiency (~10% or so) but have been great for traction. They have worn a little fast and it looks like I will be replacing them at around 25k miles or so. They will still be road legal but will have less than I am comfortable in the winter. I drive up in the upstate NY hill towns and I never know what conditions I will hit.

I was kind of interested if anyone else had had failures. Just trying to decide how long to leave these tires on.

Goodyear also makes a Wrangler Territory A/T which is electric vehicle certified and has a more aggressive tread pattern: https://www.goodyear.com/en_US/tires/wrangler-territory-at/24354-73409564000000.html?back=tireFinder

also a mud terrain tire but I imagine this tire would adversely impact mileage reage:

I guess it would be good to specify I live in central Florida. It’s flat, hot, and hasn’t snowed in 40 years or so. I am in the camp of people who never drives off road in any real capacity. Driving dynamics and efficiency are of top importance for me. I couldn’t care less about looks. In fact, I am toying with the idea of lowering the truck a bit. If I put on new tires and my truck got slower I would be bummed. Those Hankooks were supposedly AT tires, and they seemed very bouncy and grip was never great. Best guess is it just failed which is obviously concerning.

I would recommend the General Grabber highway tires then, they treated me very well.

I'm at 40k miles on my Hankook's in a little over 2 years. The outer edges have been worn since 25k miles, but the center tread has been fine. All 4 tires have worn the exact same way, so either the trucks are shipped with goofy camber, or the tires just wear that way. I figure I'll be getting new tires in the next few months and probably going with the Defenders, as they seem to be well liked.
