Backhistory: I bought new wheels and tires for my 24 lightning (Lariat trim) (Bought it in March 2025) at my local Discount Tire. I spent a lot of time (spreadsheets) comparing the various wheel and tire combo's that I wanted. I did ION 143 wheels (28 lbs) and Ridge Grapplers tires for the look and they are within 1 lb of the stock wheels and tires. The dealer couldn't get the offset (ordered 18) they only had 0 offset available which is a 18mm poke. Anyway they look FANTASTIC and drive so much better than the stock wheels and tires. Noise is minimal and range has not changed for me. I am getting 290 miles on a 90% daily charge.
I wanted to keep my OEM wheels and tires intact, so I didn't remove the factory TPMS's and transfer them to the new wheels.
First they installed the wrong TPMS sensors (315 Mhz instead of the 433 Mhz), so that was a return trip. They swapped them out but could not get them programmed. So I ordered a set of OEM sensors and still they couldn't program them.
I have a AUTEL TPMS tool, but also have a cheap Amazon "WAKE UP" tool. This is all you need and the proceedure seems to be confusing as there are 2 listed.
The Turn the Ignition ON, press the Hazards 3x (horn honks) and follow the prompts (Scan Left Front displayed on the dash)... etc. This proceedure seems to be a RESET proceedure NOT a RELEARN.
The FIX:
You need to do a RELEARN:
Turn Ignition ON... Do not start and press Hazards 3x
TPMS will prompt you.
With vehicle off, pump the brake once
key on, key off, key on, key off, key on but leave on. (5 presses)
Pump brake once more.
Now cycle the key 3 more times. On the 3rd time it should beep telling you tpms reset has been activated.
Using a TPMS wake up tool IE: This $15 Amazon tool.
Activate each near each valve stem in this order:
Hopefully this helps someone else. (The Sensors I installed at Motorcraft ML3Z-1A189-D) $20 each on ebay (NEW)
