Have had my 22’ platinum since October 22’ and it’s the best truck I’ve ever driven. 270 miles of range on the reported 320 is enough for me and enough for the road trips I take. The issues from the rear lightbar condensation, software updates not updating, and the app being constantly downgraded in features and functionality don’t take away how nice it is to drive.

Such a bummer the current government blew up this trucks promising future.

I’ve only got ~26k miles on my truck and just got my first set of new tires (significant impact to range, small hit was expected but not .3 mi/kw) and knowing how @Ford Motor Company hasn’t been incredible at managing the software to begin with I am starting to dig into EV trucks again for my next one. Because they certainly won’t invest much into software for a vehicle they killed off for people who almost never drive more than 200 miles without stopping need to feel bright and shiny about 700 miles in an EREV.

Have any of you gotten a Silverado or Rivian or looked into them much? I did with the Rivian years back before I got my lightning and not sure how much has come to light with them.

side note, I bet ford could have tweaked aerodynamics of the lightning for a new model from the very non efficient rectangle (looks cool though right?) that could increase range to 350-400. The difference in efficiency between my ladies MME and my lightning is about 200%

Well, if I were in the market for a pickup to just do truck things like hauling stuff to the dump, my first pick might be the upcoming Slate. Would probably need a second vehicle though for non truck stuff.

Hopefully I have quite a few years before I need to figure that out. So many things will have changed before I get there, so not giving it any thought. When I bought my Lightning in early 2025, the Lightning was the only truck that had any real consideration.

I’m keeping the Lightning until it’s impossible to drive. Then I’ll be looking for the closest thing to a mid-sized (Tacoma-sized) single-cab, BEV truck with a 6-foot or longer bed, at least 30 Amp, 240 Volt power output in the bed, a 300+ mile range, and isn’t a Ford-branded or Ford-imported vehicle. I don’t trust Ford to be a reliable partner in BEVs. I plan for the Lightning to be our last Ford purchase.

The Rivian R1T looks nice, but I’m not a fan of the anti-tactile UX decisions of Rivian. Its bed is too small.
The Scout Terra looks nice. It’s bigger than I’d prefer (same size as the Lightning).
The (vaporish) Slate bed is too small.
There is nothing else available or planned to be available in the US at this time.

I think those look pretty fun as well but I need a 4 door pickup for the kiddos.

I have no plans to buy an EV pickup. We will be replacing the Mach-E with something more efficient, with more range, in 2026 or 2027. When it's time to sell the Lightning, it won't be for another pickup I don't think.

What will be for sale 10+ years from now? Will our society be living in 2036 or 1886 by then? I have no plan to move on from the Lightning anytime soon.

BTW, @Rthol21: what new tires do you have that are causing such a range penalty?
I previously was not concerned with keeping the truck for 4-5 more years but lack of investment to keep the software in these things appropriate is telling my gut part ways sooner than later.

I got the Goodyear Wrangler Steadfast HT two weeks ago. Averaging 1.8mi/kw on my daily commute of 12 miles with no highway driving.

I think we are replacing the ladies MME this year with a comparable vehicle from another maker as well for the same reasons.

I'm keeping it until the wheels fall off, put them back on and go some more.

I figure in 10 years there'll be a better battery option to replace the original.

My lifetime is 1.8, with a bunch of highway winter trips in there. Mach-E lifetime is about 2.7 or 2.8 (Ford software reset it at one point).

I've got an R2 reservation and keep browsing for the R1T Tri motors but just can't stomach spending that kind of coin. Realistically I'll just keep the Lightning around since a base XLT standard range is worth about the same as an expired gallon of milk and anything that comes after it will just be in addition to....unless of course this mythical EREV F150 actually sees the light of day.

My short list:
  1. TELO MT1
  2. Future 20k tow rated Sierra? Hopefully with diff locks on both axles
  3. Scout Terra, if it ever stops being delayed
  4. Slate, but only if they come out with AWD kit
Note the conspicuous absence of a Ford product on that list.
