I've been waiting for my Rivian R1T for a while now. When the lightning was released, I plopped down my $100 and didn't think about it again...

About a month ago I got an email and it said I needed to order. I took a look, my Rivian was still projected for Q4. My dealer followed up and I figured what the heck and plopped down another $500 and placed a bare bones order. I didn't think much of it, haven't researched and kind of figuring worst case I'll sell it...

That's when I started seeing the headlines of markups and flipping agreements. Freaking out a little that I might have signed something I wasn't aware of, I contacted my dealer - no markup, no flipping agreement to sign, and I'm their first order and that it should be "Early Spring" for delivery.

That's when I figured, I should probably get some more info about this truck given it's a tangible thing that could be at my door shortly compared to the Rivian unicorn. The more I read the more compelling this truck seems and I'm giving serious thoughts to keeping it now so I have a couple of questions.

1) Did I make a mistake by ordering a completely stripped version? The only thing I selected was the color - carbonized grey. Should I update the order with any must have options?

2) Is the dealer pulling my leg? I ordered new years week and they sent me all the paperwork and took my license, etc. Is "early spring" actually a reality? Or is this more like Tesla where it's coming soon and soon means never?

3) I haven't seen it. Is it essentially the same as the gas version in terms of size and feel? Obviously the EV components will be different but I figure if I go test drive a gas version I may get a sense as to if it'll work for me.

It seems I have a lot of reading to do so at this point, but thanks in advance.

IMO:
1) Only you can decide what options are aren't important to you based on how you will use the truck, your financial situation, etc. I order a Platinum but most on here say the Pro is the best value for "bare bones" and Lariat is the best value with ER.
2) I am a wave 1 order as well. I expect my vehicle at the end of May (not 1st hand knowledge, just expectation based on commentary by Ford and knowledgeable forum members
3)Slightly straighter body style with a large Frunk. Otherwise, very similar to ICE configurations.

There are a lot of smart, informed people on here that know a lot more than me on the subject so I think reading the forums is a great idea.

I think adding the Pro Power Onboard 9.6KW option would help resale if you decide to sell it.

You can still modify your order, maybe not trim level, but packages/options, all the way until scheduling for production starts. So if you want to add the tow and pro power packages you can still do it. It is the same cab as the ICE truck, which is a very roomy, comfortable, quiet ride. Same with size, wheelbase etc, so go test drive one to get a feel for it.

I think later-spring/early-summer is more realistic for the first customer trucks. There hasn't been any news of setbacks and everything seems full steam ahead (Ford even moved the production schedule up a month). Barring any setbacks or delays in materials, May-June seems like a good bet.

That's really good to know. The first thing I'm going to do is test drive it to make sure it works for me.

If you’re one of the lucky ones who was able to secure a Pro in first wave, keep it! I added both packages to mine figuring I wanted the extra towing capacity and 360 cameras, but without those needs the basic order should be fine. I also like the tailgate step and bedliner options.

I've never owned a F-150 before, this will be my first. Moving from a large SUV one thing I noticed when I rented an F-150 on a recent multi-day trip was that it's a pain to park. The turning radius sucks, so it's something you just have to plan for. It will be a great commuting and camping vehicle, but I don't see it as the vehicle I'll pick to go run errands at any parking lot other than a costco.

Yup, full sized trucks are unwieldy vehicles and you need to get used to driving them if you haven't before.

Always back in with any vehicle that has a sh*tty turning radius (pretty much any current pickup truck) ?. Also, the difficulty of parking a truck has never limited my ability to park anywhere, ever, and I frequently park in a garage for work that legit has only compact spots
