We are taking my wife's van on vacation. We will be away for 8 days. What is best for the truck:
  1. Letting it sit at 80% charge
  2. Letting it sit with <20% charge
  3. Letting it sit with 100% charge
  4. No concerns. Let it sit at whatever state of charge it is at

From what I've seen, 50% is best for long term storage, but I don't really think 8 days would count as that. Personally I'd probably do 80% if your choices are only between those options. I know letting it sit at 100% isn't good for the battery.

50% for extended time. But eight days shouldn't really matter.

I let mine sit for 10 days at 78%, not plugged in. I agree with the others, 8 days should be no big deal. 50-80% probably ideal if you want that warm fuzzy feeling.

3 should never be happening.
2 is bad for the battery.
1 is fine, but if you followed Ford's recommendation the truck would be at 90% every night, plugged in. That's the right answer.
4 is, in reality, fine, because most people won't own the vehicle long enough for it to matter.

Thanks all. I’ll charge to 90 prior to leaving.

Then again, leaving the lightning plugged in during a thunderstorm is potentially a bad idea, so personally I'd just leave it unplugged at whatever state it is (assuming not 100% and not virtually zero) and just leave it at that.

It's 8 days...

Here’s an example…
Sunday I left the house with 90%, got to the airport with 85%. It’s Wednesday afternoon and still 85%. I’ve left it for 3 weeks and the SOC didn’t move then either.

I don’t care about loosing miles or not from sitting. I was asking referring to the health of the battery

There's a thread here with someone who had their truck plugged in when the house was hit by lightning. The EVSE (an Emporia unit) was toast but the truck was fine. I'm with Rick, leave it plugged in if you can.

I've found this to be the case as well. Phantom drain on this truck just isn't a thing compared to my old model 3.

also we are

It's not gonna hurt the HV battery to leave the truck plugged in to the EVSE for 8 days.

Nope. It’s gonna charge up per your programming and sit. No drama at all, really.

Mine dropped about 1% per day when I left it parked at the airport… but I also forgot to turn off the departure schedule so it was warming itself up every morning lol.

Option 5 take the truck - if you don’t you’ll miss it too much!

Took the wife’s vehicle on our current 10 day trip and I left mine at 50% and plugged in. Like @capt_ramius i forgot about the preconditioning until I got the notification that the cabin was ready Monday morning. So I toggled it off in the app - very convenient.
