Some of them can yes, but not Ford. Just turn your iPhone off and then try to use the Watch app, you'll see pretty quick what happens.
I took the 'GDN Challenge' and I'm not surprised that GDN is correct. It's like Snow White at midnight. As soon as the iPhone is turned off, FordPass on the watch turns into a pumpkin and you can't even make pie with it. ?

Skeptical Apple Watch wearer with active cellular plan here.

Is that true for the watches that have the standalone cell connection? Those can work independently of phones.
Yes, even with a cellular connected watch, you need to have your phone close by or it won't work. Major fail on the watch app.

You can remote start the Lightning with the keyfob by installing the Start X remote start kit for the gas 2021+ F150s. Video link showing it in action.

An aftermarket key fob with a remote start button in place of the frunk button (meant for other Ford models) will remote start from the key fob. At least the one I got from Aliexpress does. It would be nice if somebody made a Lightning specific fob with both remote start and frunk buttons.

You guys all make me realize how much of a get-off-my-lawn-90-year-old I am at 41. I have no interest in 1-pedal driving (even though I use the equivalent feature on my motorcycle)......
life for us old timers. Hey, I just found out that my Smart phone can also be used to make telephone calls! imagine that!

It really wouldn't surprise me if a lot of manufacturers push even basic app access into a subscription model. I'd much rather they improve the app.
Yes Ford, improve the App and onboard infotainment system, it’s so far behind Tesla.

You guys all make me realize how much of a get-off-my-lawn-90-year-old I am at 41. I have no interest in 1-pedal driving (even though I use the equivalent feature on my motorcycle), but I really appreciate the blended braking system and the ability to coast when I'm off the gas. I'll never subscribe to a SaaS (software as a service) feature for my vehicle. I'm going to listen to the Lithium channel on Sirius until the trial ends and then go back to the FM radio. I'll always use my keyfob to lock/unlock the truck. Hell, I haven't even figured out how to get the hands-free driving blue cruise function to work. I was pleasantly surprised by adaptive cruise control slowing me down with traffic last week. I even managed to turn off the blind-spot sensors in the mirrors by accident. Rather than figure out how to turn them back on, I'm just looking over my shoulder prior to changing lanes like I always have. For a software engineer who works on SaaS products, I feel remarkably old and set in my ways. And I'm okay with that. I still love this truck even if I only use a small subset of the features.
Amen!

I ordered one of those, I think, the Aliexpress page had a bunch of key fobs, I tried to select #4 but not sure if the system understood that from the check out item details, so I put in the notes I need #4:

Don't know if it's been mentioned in this thread or not, didn't read the whole thing but yes you can remote start from the fob, provided you but a fob for the same year ice version of the truck.

Program it in following the owners manual then all you have to do is press the lock button once and the new fob has a 2 with a circle around it you press two times.

You've just remote started your truck, Caveat being you lose the frunk button.

My owners manual (2023 on page 146) also mentions a remote start in the FordPass - now FORD - app, but mine does not have that START button?
----
ENABLING REMOTE START
1. Access the vehicle drawer on the
touchscreen.
2. Press SETTINGS.
3. Press Vehicle.
4. Press Remote Start Setup.
5. Switch Remote Start on or off.

Note: To remote start with FordPass or
Phone as a Key, make sure that the modem
is enabled and Phone as a Key is setup. See
Enabling and Disabling the Modem (page
486). See Connecting Your Phone (page
525).

REMOTELY STARTING AND
STOPPING THE VEHICLE
Remotely Starting the Vehicle
Using your FordPass app, press and hold
the start button.

Note: You can also use the phone as a key
to start the vehicle.
• The direction indicators flash twice.
• The parking lamps turn on when the
vehicle is running.
• The horn sounds if the system fails to
start.
• All other vehicle systems remain off
when you have remotely started the
vehicle.
• The vehicle remains secured when you
have remotely started the vehicle. A
valid key must be inside your vehicle to
switch the vehicle on and drive your
vehicle.

Remotely Stopping the Vehicle
Using your FordPass app, press the remote
stop button.
