Regardless of politics, the vilification of EV’s is just plain caveman brain. The incentives were pretty well thought out. When a model gets to a certain production number, the incentive decreases or disappears. To my way of thinking, this was an excellent adaption strategy.
I hope Ford’s focus on lower MSRP on future EV will greatly help. We need an electric Escape or Ranger as soon as possible. Farley in conjunction with others at Ford have really worked to set-up a long term model for success. I just hope they can see it through to fruition.

I completely agree. I travel internationally and the general US population doesn't realize that EVs are going to take over. In some places they are everywhere. US automakers are going to lose the battle, and it's only a matter of time before the US makes the transition, albeit slower than a lot of countries.

The messaging of government support of EVs under the last administration was about climate change, which I think shot themselves in the foot. If they also promoted support as saving the US auto industry things may be very different. If our government subsidizes or otherwise encourages EV transition it's almost a win-win. Yes, there's environmental benefits. But a HUGE economic benefit. It helps automakers and adds jobs.

I am not from the US so I just can't wrap my head around the semantics of phrasing something so that each side of the political spectrum doesn't have a tantrum over making sure the other side is not winning at something, even though they themselves will lose in the end as well.

You are right though, if EV's were presented with the primary goal of not only saving the US auto industry but to fight China and be the global leader in EV's , things would be a lot different. It's pretty easy and is exactly the self perpetuating problem to "blame" the previous administration. EV's were out way before the previous administration. its also irrelevant how or when this became tied to climate change and politics in the US. The past is the past, previous administration is gone. The new administration could easily take credit by changing the narrative and doing exactly what you said and state, there is no time to lose. The American Auto industry is at war with China and we must double down to become a power house in the auto industry. Instead, it's the same old, blame the other side and make sure it fails. Then when the other side gets in power again, blame the other side for something else and self destruct somemore. It's actually quite ridiculous watching the US implode by the hate and division of its own people.

As you mentioned, EV's will be taking over the world, that tipping point already happened. The US can try to ignore it but it would be no different than the rest of the world transitioning to cars and the US being defiant and sticking with horses to save their ranchers. The US will eventually be forced to switch to EV's, the only thing that is still left undecided, with time running out fast, is if US auto will still be there when this happens.

Each side opposing the other has always been a thing, but in the last 20 years or so it's gotten worse. Each party really digs in to oppose the other no matter what in an effort to make the other look as bad as possible. That trickles down such that people often support things that go against their own self interest because they've been conditioned to see the other side as inherently bad or evil.

We are seeing that in the context of EVs. The reality is that transitioning and supporting the development and adoption of EVs can support policies of each party. But it's hard for them to be seen as doing something that the other party wants. They are stuck in a catch-22. The only way I see government support of EVs continuing is that politicians do it but keep quiet about it. There's a chance Congress quietly sits back and leaves the current tax incentives and grants in place and keeps other issues in the news, and courts will limit the president's ability to end the programs. A president can only go so far, he can't effectively nullify a law passed by Congress since the intent is that Congress has far more power than the president.

Unfortunately the previous administration/congress decided to meddle with things and returned incentives on all models. It wasn’t necessary, but they had to push their “green new deal” agenda. Tesla was doing fine without incentives, but the incentives helped spur other manufacturers to develop EV’s.

It’s really entertaining watching the left freak out now that orange man bad is back in power and doing exactly what he said he would do. The left went way too far with policies that the majority of Americans did’t like, so the pendulum swung back the other way. In 2026 congress may swing back left, and possibly the executive branch in 2028. Eventually the other side will be back in power. Unfortunately both sides polarize one side against another, leading to hurt feelings rather than people working together and compromising on reasonable solutions. Compromise is key, but many people just want to dig in their heels and force the change they seek without hearing out the opposition. You see some posts here suggesting only neanderthals still drive ICE or EV’s can work for all applications with zero sensitivity or comprehension that EV’s are still a ways off from being a universal solution. I don’t think other countries are any less polarized, but I think they don’t have the same freedom of speech and press that we enjoy in the USA. Some governments don’t have to care what the plebs think as they really aren’t accountable to their populace.

Does anyone else feel betrayed by the government (specifically the Donald Trump administration)? The main reason I bought the EV was because we were given a deadline that a lot of vehicles will be changing over to electric and that more and more EV Chargers will be installed throughout the US. Now this administration has taken over and decimated the program that was suppose to fund the installation of chargers. I just feel like a complete dumbass for buying this truck knowing that everything will remain limited on travel unless you pass by a progressive city with chargers.

"Betrayed" isn't the word I would use. F'ed is more like it.

I bought my truck two years ago based on the then current availability of charging and never regretted it then and still don’t regret it now.

The charging infrastructure will continue to be built out. The private sector will build even if at a slower pace.

But yet the fossil fuel industry keeps getting corporate welfare. I wonder why they are not able to succeed in the 'free market' that the republicans claim to believe in, or at least they used to. I am not sure what they believe nowadays. Clearly they believe that they must be beholden to their leader and not the constitution.
