Parking brake fail? Wet, not icy surface

Vehicles slide all the time on ice when they are parked. The truck is fine. suggest sanding and salting the driveway.

Unfortunately someone changed the topic. The driveway was not icy (I walked up it in sneakers ). Boston ran out of salt awhile ago and my son hasn’t had any issues this winter, and neither did I the entire week I was driving while he was unable to.

Retitling the thread back to "Parking brake fail" is wrong, it wasn't proven by the service department.

More than likely the tire slid on the surface and yes a "perfect storm" conditions brought it about, hopefully it does not repeat, but definitely consider, curbing the front wheels (if you have a curb close by)

The parking brake is completely irrelevant. The truck has a park gear just like any other vehicle. It is not possible for the truck to roll away when in park. The rear axle is locked in place. Are you SURE you put it in park?

My truck rolled back from driveway aswell. But there was ice and driveway was steep. Parking brake was on. I saw the back tires were still just slipping off the ice but front tires were rolling, so even if the truck is in park it doesn't lock the front tires.

Yes, this has been discussed previously many times. There is absolutely nothing different about this truck than any other truck or traditional ICE vehicle when it comes to parking it. In fact, it’s far less likely than many modern cars that only rely on an emergency/parking brake and don’t have a parking pawl as part of the transmission. You may have seen the front tires “rolling”, but make no mistake- your truck was SLIDING due to low friction conditions. The front tires may have been turning but your rear tires were not.

A traditional ICE pick up would only set the rear tires with the parking brake, and the weight on the rear axel would be near nothing on a ICE F-150 with the alum panels, and noting in the bed.

I remember one time with my Dad we stopped on a road due to shear black ice smooth as glass. When we got out of the truck we could hear it sliding sideways a bit at a time just from the crown in the road. Scary slick conditions - black ice and just a touch of rain.
