Can you activate PPO without having to keep the truck "running" the whole time?

Exactly! That's what I'm saying!
I don't know how this moved to "keeping" PPO running and a sufficient load to do so (my load is 4kW). My complaint is having all the accessories and screens running while using PPO. Is someone suggesting there's a mod or update that fixes this? Mine's a 23 pro model.
There may be a way to accomplish most of what you want, but it requires using Forscan to activate the "Silent Mode" toggle. That's a one-time change and then you have the toggle in the vehicle menu.
It still requires the truck to be "On."

Ok, thanks. I'm hesitant to get into Forescan and to be initiating software changes on a vehicle thats still under warranty. If this is a software improvement that can be implemented I would like Ford to do it! And, how dumb is it that it was set up this way on the first place! Please!

Can we send pizza money for some late nights for the IT staff? I hope they are getting on board with the AI coding. It might speed things up some day. Or if you need guinea pigs, let us know.

So to answer your question, yes it's dumb, no there's no way to do it on the 22 or 23 model years. They added the option on the 24 and said they'd add it to 22 and 23 with a OTA update, but it hasn't happened yet. Considering they released BC 1.4 a couple months ago and it still hasn't rolled out to everybody, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for PPO on the 22/23. It would be nice if Ford was more on the ball with software updates.

Yup... I gave them the benefit of the doubt early on as they were supposed to be learning from all the EV start ups that prioritize software. But now it's been 4 years and Ford still can't fix simple bugs, heck, they still can't even roll out updates to everyone. Did I mention it's been 4 Years!. Ford's solution.. Cut the software department. They just don't get this new software age. This just zapped away all the decades of trust and generational loyalty I had with Ford Trucks. I don't care about their fancy tree branch assembly line cutting costs when they can't even provide or care to provide software updates that are already complete. Things need to dramatically change on the software side for us current EV owners to regain some trust or we won't be buying again no matter what the price is. I am not going to buy another car riddled with bugs and then have the feeling that I have been abandoned.

Just push the unlock button on your remote, (and within 1 min.) reach into The bed, and push the pro power button. All outlets are ready to go.
No need to start the truck. That’s how it works in my ‘24.
And it activates the interior outlets too.

Then you can walk away and use the remote to turn off the truck again right; with the PPO still on. Locking the truck does not abort the "stay on while truck is off" thing? I'm still learning how to do this now that I bought a fridge for it. I left it on while the Mrs and I were in the grocery store (about 50 miles away from home. When I came out it was not on and I had it running. But I think you just answered my question that I've been struggling with. I had seen and read that part in the manual but didn't really understand. Now I do. Thanks I'll try it again tomorrow.

I'm thinking that the system may be a bit quirky. I used it for my electric drill one time last fall and pressed the button to stay on. Turned off the truck and used the drill for a couple of operations. Then tried it again after a couple of minutes and it was off and I had to start it again. I must have done something different then because it stayed on until I finished the job. I think I need to try it again and see if perhaps this is actually me and not the truck. It does seem like Ford could have made this easier but something tells me they have their reasons; safety requirements and stuff. After all, that generator has a lot of power behind it.

Yes, I remember that I saw an ad for the 2024 Lightning Flash on YouTube when I was still thinking about looking for an electric truck. They were pointing out that the Flash was the one to get because it had a lot of some of the main features of even the Platinum level truck (like the PPO 9.6)but it was a lot like the XLT also with no leather seats or ventilated seats. Also no auto-fold mirrors - really miss that. But It seems to have all the important stuff and in 2024 they added the heat pump. That was fortunate because I didn't even realize Lightnings didn't have one previously plus I live in a very snowy cold place in the winter. I've heard a heat pump is more efficient heating method in an EV than radiant heat or whatever they call it.

If I had to choose, I'd rather have PPO work when the truck is off and not work when the truck is on, rather than the other way around. I'm not sure I've ever needed 120v power while I was using the truck as a vehicle. And it's been a pain in the butt to get 120v power out of it every time I've wanted to.

Really dumb, @Ford Motor Company

My feelings exactly. In a few years when I'm buying a new truck, if @Ford Motor Company leaves us '22/'23 owners in the dust, my next vehicle will not be a Ford.

Fix Pro Power Onboard so I don't have to run my truck all night

I thought this was fixed for newer Lightnings but certainly not for my 2023. You are so right, it makes no sense to have the truck "on" for all the reasons you stated just to use PPO. I once left my truck "on" for 4 days after an extended power outage. @Ford Motor Company please fix this issue.

It would be nice to be able to activate the PPO from the FordPass app without "starting" the truck.
