A lot of the automotive batteries look like they have vents on both ends.
A vent tube connects to outside on some of my vehicles with the battery that are inside the cabin.

I dont think anyone here is against being cautious in this regard. He brings up a good point and it is something to be aware of when charging the battery, any battery.

The point is not that it is something to be ignored. Its that there are ways to charge the battery that dont use the remote terminals, that go to the battery directly, and dont run that risk.

Yes, they ALL have vents...so they won't explode if there is a major defect or extremely overcharged.

Under normal conditions, the gasses get recombined and very little is vented (1% they say).

Still want to know if any Lightning owners have noticed a hydrogen smell from their sealed AGM OEM battery - so far 0% say they have.

Disregarding safety protocols is negligence.

The TONE of recent posts 'imply' little risk.

Sure. But is not a discussion on the risk also warranted?

Personally, I do think there is very little risk of an issue. But in truth I dont even think to mention using the terminals because I was envisioning completely removing the battery and charging it on the bench. So when he went off about using the external connections it was confusing, especially when all that had to be said was simply "make sure you charge safely".

At the end of the day there are multiple ways to do so safely that do NOT include using the remote connection points. So I think the discussion is warranted, because using a spark free charger, connecting to the terminals before emerging the charger, letting the battery rest before charging, ventilating the area, and physically inspecting the area all ARE safe ways to do this in the very rare instance there could be hydrogen gas.

So you are saying that there are NOT OTHER ways to charge the battery safely. None. The ONLY way to do so is with the remote terminals, thats it. Thats the only way it can be done.

Stop thinking that because someone isnt saying you are right they are saying you are wrong.

I simply posted the proper way to connect to the battery there are NO implications for any other use. Not taking it out and putting it on a charger no other variables AT ALL, NONE!

There is ONLY 1 proper way to do it, it's been posted, there is no further discussion warranted.

No, you posted A proper way, not THE proper way. If you think there is only one way to do so safely then thats your issue. There are a variety of ways to do so safely and your years of experiance ment anything then it should have shown you how.

I ended up checking my battery, using the accessory side terminals on the passenger side in the Frunk. It was pretty easy taking it off although a couple of the connectors broke in the process. Not sure if they can be replaced, but tape seems to be holding ithe cover in place. Incidentally, my battery showed to be fully charged yet. I still keep getting messages saying that I need battery maintenance. I guess I'll get the dealer to check it

You cannot check the battery that way, unless you wait 30 minutes after waking up the truck, and approach without fob or PaaK to wake it up again.

What you read is voltage, not state of charge.
