Hi all,

Everything I've read so far about FPL Home Charger installation says inside the garage.

I would like to mount it outside to an existing box. Has anyone had FPL install their charger outside?

Thanks.

Going off their literature, no, it's inside an attached garage only.

Probably cheapo indoor only evse.

They use a Wallbox Pulsar Plus which is outdoor rated, so not sure why they are only saying indoor installations.

Maybe there is a chance they'll do it.

I had the Ford charger installed outside of my garage and then had FPL replace it with their Wallbox charger. It works great and I’m getting the full 48 amps.

Great. Thank you for confirming. Interesting that you are getting 48 amps. The website says 40 amps maximum.

What size breaker did you have and what did FPL use?

Thanks.

It’s on a 60 amp breaker. I too was surprised by the 48 amps because I was expecting 40 amps from everything I had read.

80% rule is that the breaker needs to be sized 20% higher than the running current. Therefore, you can only charge a maximum of 48A.m in a 60A breaker. 80A on a 100A breaker, etc.

Update. FPL will let you mount their charger outside if you already had one outside. I didn't see this as an option with their full install. With the full install option, they say it has to be installed inside the garage and 10 feet from the breaker box.

Even with the EV ready option, where you have a box, they don't say it can be mounted outside until after you enroll and start answering some questions.

With that done, they have now asked me send them a screenshot with a wifi analyzer at the charger location outside. They want to see a reading that is consistently below -64.

One thing I have questioned is that they are requesting a disconnect box within 10 feet of the charger location. I read in several places that this is only needed above 60 amps, and since this is 60 amps, it is not necessary. I am waiting for a response on this.
