I installed the ECG2-25.2.8.5 update yesterday. On our way out of town this evening, I stopped for a quick top-up at a DC fast charger. As soon as I plugged in, the truck threw a “Service Vehicle Soon” warning.

I tried the usual quick fix of disconnecting the 12V battery, but the message stayed.

One thing that stood out: right after the update finished yesterday, the system clock was completely incorrect, and the whole update process seemed to complete unusually fast. Makes me think something didn’t install properly.

This is on a 2024 Lightning Platinum with around 8,000 miles. Planning to take it to the dealer first thing tomorrow.

I got the same thing I just got the update the other day. I woke up this morning. Could not remote start my truck for my phone it said on the app it was in battery saver mode. My truck did not charge the error light was on on my charger sometimes it does that. That chargers a piece of crap. And now it says service vehicle soon inside the vehicle. @Ford Motor Company

Hang in there, bud. Love my Lightning coming from a Tesla (and I owned 3 Teslas) but it gets tricky with service because you’re at the mercy of independent dealerships. Hopefully this doesn’t get drawn out.

Dropped off at the dealership this morning. Of course no loaner and they’re not sure how long it’ll take to resolve - it could be days to weeks. @Ford Motor Company
I'll message you to help get you sorted ASAP. I'll also ensure that the OTA knows about it so they can triage for other folks.

The no-charge thing is a real pain. It makes you start the day scrambling. I've set my software update window toward the end of my charge window, so I get most of the night to charge before the update window opens and potentially disrupts charging. If an update causes a glitch, the truck should already be charged by then or at least well along the way.

Just got truck back. My suspicions were correct. The botched automatic update was responsible. Dealership performed updates on SOBDM, SOBDMC and PCM modules, which resolved issues. Tested out at Tesla Supercharger and worked just fine.

@Ford Motor Company - no more action required from your end. Thanks for following up.

Some bad news - issue returned again. We were headed out of town for Christmas, stopped at a Tesla supercharger, plugged in and got the error. Wife has now placed an embargo on using the Lightning for trips out of town since we've been left stranded twice :frown:

Turned back home and noticed some odd behavoir on L2 charger. I had to unplug and plug back repeatedly for it to eventually charge. Drove to a few DC chargers by the house to test again and none of them worked - all red rings when I plug in and error code in dash.

Dropped truck at dealership this evening, and of course, no loaners available.

Fun times!

Just got a call from the dealer to come pickup the truck. They said they can’t find any issue other than the DC system shutting down due to potentially faulty DC charger, and once that happens, they have to clear the code for it to work.

Twice at two separate superchargers leaves me skeptical, especially when Tesla owners were able to plug into same chargers after we had issues and they were fine.

Feeling stuck here, and not sure what next steps are, but clearly can’t roadtrip with our Lightning, unfortunately.

This has evolved into a nightmare. Now I’m also having intermittent issues with Level 2 charging at home. As of tonight, DC charging completely broken again for the third time in 1 month while the dealer tells me (and Ford) that it’s bad chargers and not an issue with the truck. Since I’m starting to get the runaround from both Ford and the dealer, I think it’s time to file a complaint with the Texas DMV. Honestly, no one should have to deal with this 10 months after dropping 75k for a new truck.

In addition to a DMV complaint. I would send a demand letter via certified mail to Ford. I did this years ago with a lemon law buyback threat. That will get their attention. I can message you the letter I sent.

You can read the buyback threads for other ideas. Getting Fords attention to help with dealer incompetence can be helpful.
