Today Farley hosted Trump in Dearborn today and announced a new ICE truck. According to this article this truck replaces the previously announced EV truck. It sounds like Ford is abandoning EVs except for the Mach-E.

”Farley explained that the newly planned ICE truck will replace the previously promised sub-$30,000 electric pickup truck that was slated for production at Ford's Blue Oval City facility in Stanton, Tennessee.”

Hopefully that’s a misunderstanding at Road & Track but maybe @Ford Motor Company can give us an update.

That would not make any sense whatsoever. They have a compact truck, midsize truck, fullsize truck, and HD Super Duty truck in the lineup already. You can buy a new fully equipped Maverick for under $40k already. When it comes to ICE powered pickup trucks, Ford has ALL the bases covered.

I just don't get it.....

Interesting that Road and Track is the only one running that story. Seems like it'd be a lot bigger deal if he said that.
You would think that Ford has a PR team that monitors such things and would have reached out to R&T to correct it.

I’m not counting on Ford to deliver anything they have promised in the EV world.

I am betting on the New startup manufacturers for quality, timely and affordable EVs from here on out.

I have one of earliest reservations for the SLATE truck that is entering production later this year.

I believe Ford Authority in this case.

I am happy to see Farley's announcement today. I wish my wife's Explorer was PHEV. I know I am in the minority on this BEV forum, but PHEV in an Explorer would be great for us.

yeah I'm guessing road and track put their foots in their mouth. Ford apparently mentioned the new ICE truck for 2029 back when they announced the end of the lightning as something they don't have today and wouldn't be a part of the F-series lineup.

Ford's planned $30k mid-size EV truck - which is being built in Kentucky - is currently still planned for 2027.

Ford was going to build the new full-size EV truck (and van) in Tennessee. That is what is being talked about here. Ford's official stance is that its introduction is pushed off to 2028, but that could be more of a "soft cancellation".

So Ford today has the Maverick - Ranger - F150. So where is this thing suppose to fit and how will it not be a direct competitor to some part of or all three of those models.

I’m sorry, but this doesn’t make sense to me.

What does $30k get you nowadays when it comes to a new ride? A Corolla/Civic/small SUV from Kia or Hyunda typically start at $26k and end up around $30k when all is said and done. Was a $30k truck from Ford ever a real possibility? Sounds like more of a pipe dream to me.

There’s no money in it. Ford would probably lose money on something like that and while they’ve “written off” roughly 1/3rd of their market cap as bad ev debt, the amount of time and/or bailout needed to return to new production isn’t realistic.

People have proven that when the chips are down, they more often than not make the easy decision of buying something overpriced than something within their mean. Just my opinion but it doesn’t seem far wrong with Farley trying to grandstand on something he won’t even be ceo for.

Online media sucks.

The article overuses the word "combustion" and the stats are clearly dredged from other sources without confirmation.

Either the writer doesn't give a shit about journalistic quality or their lazy ass just used chat gpt to write it. Either way just more dog poop regurgitated as news.
