Battery Conditioning Issue

It's been super cold last couple of weeks truck is parked outside and plugged in. I noticed that I have not not heard the truck fire up to warm the battery at all at night was working fine a couple weeks ago. I checked my home energy monitor for my charger and confirms that its not kicking on. I have a pixel 9 phone and android ford pass. Yesterday I was messing with my phone and every time I open the ford pass app. It locks up and I have to kill the app and reopen it when I reopen the app and refresh it all of a sudden I noticed that the battery conditioning message pops up on the app and I heard truck start warming the battery outside. I have re-created it multiple times killing the app and refreshing it and the battery conditioning starts working. Not sure if it's something with the app or waking up the truck when you refresh that gets the battery conditioning to start working. Seems like a bug

I'm gonna assume that you know the difference between 'no communication' and a truly frozen app. There has been quite a bit of server side issues lately and I'm inclined to think that may be your frozen app issue, especially if it's not being handled gracefully. As far as the truck goes, I'm further making the assumption that you are talking about departure times as opposed to the battery conditioning when it's cold out. The majority of what I've seen people do is to try turning departure times off and back on, then removing and readding them. I haven't personally experienced this issue but it seems to resolve most of them.

AFAIK that is mostly variable, there are charts that show a correlation in outdoor temperature ranges like @TaxmanHog but it shouldn't be dependent on connectivity. That being said it may use connectivity for a weather forecast but this is strictly speculation on my part, but considering the relatively high energy cost to warm the pack, it wouldn't be a bad idea either.

I only see the battery pre-conditioning message if there is a departure scheduled.
When warming the battery otherwise, no messages.

I see from my FCSP Insights tab that the EVSE does use some energy even when not charging or pre-conditioning for departure, so I assume it is warming the battery with those Wh's.
It is not preconditioning though.

I think perhaps the preconditioning of the battery is different from just keeping it from freezing to death, and the preconditioning only happens when you schedule a departure.

But I don't have a lot of experience with using those setting in the app. so just speculating.

Departure Timed preconditioning uses more energy to raise the HVB to a higher temperature.

Spontaneous warming occurs randomly based on environmental status, it doesn't last as long in duration, sometimes 5 to 15 minutes and once done it doesn't repeat, though I'll admit that I drive her every day in the winter so I haven't observed if it'll repeat as needed.

The Ford App does not control the execution of either process, it is used to define rules for departure events.
