What’s your next BEV Pickup?

I'll preface by saying that my Lightning will be staying in my personal fleet until it can no longer be operated safely.

As far as my next BEV pick-up, I want something that's equivalent in form factor to an F-450 dually (but doesn't have to necessarily be from Ford).

- spacious cab; 2 rows of captain chairs (3 + 3), central driving position, and flanked by 2 large screens like the Tesla Semi
- 8' bed
-0.5MWh 1200v HVB with MCS/x-MCS - NACS adapter

Essentialy a luxury heavy duty super truck.

As an aside - if or when updates no longer become available by Ford, it doesn't mean the truck is no longer operational. I think that the the need for OTA updates for long-term viability is not an actual concern.

Might not be too far fetched to see something along those lines eventually, starting to see 7 seat EVs out there already.

If I was buying a new BEV truck in the next 6-12 months it would be a Rivian.

Have had my 22’ platinum since October 22’ and it’s the best truck I’ve ever driven. 270 miles of range on the reported 320 is enough for me and enough for the road trips I take. The issues from the rear lightbar condensation, software updates not updating, and the app being constantly downgraded in features and functionality don’t take away how nice it is to drive.

Such a bummer the current government blew up this trucks promising future.

I’ve only got ~26k miles on my truck and just got my first set of new tires (significant impact to range, small hit was expected but not .3 mi/kw) and knowing how @Ford Motor Company hasn’t been incredible at managing the software to begin with I am starting to dig into EV trucks again for my next one. Because they certainly won’t invest much into software for a vehicle they killed off for people who almost never drive more than 200 miles without stopping need to feel bright and shiny about 700 miles in an EREV.

Have any of you gotten a Silverado or Rivian or looked into them much? I did with the Rivian years back before I got my lightning and not sure how much has come to light with them.

side note, I bet ford could have tweaked aerodynamics of the lightning for a new model from the very non efficient rectangle (looks cool though right?) that could increase range to 350-400. The difference in efficiency between my ladies MME and my lightning is about 200%

I want to see what ford has in store for their $30k EV. I imagine sub $40k for a “lariat like” trim.

tbh I might just keep buying low mileage lightings as long as I can find em, so far best truck ever, why mess with a good formula, especially when I see the deals some of y'all are getting

I will be holding on to the Lightning for posterity shack, but I intend by the Slate (if it becomes available to us mere mortal customers not living California or running a fleet operation). My reservation was made in the first 3hrs of it being open last year.

If not, I will definitely checkout the Ford Universal Electric Platform Pickup.

I'm in the "drive the Lightning until the wheels fall off" camp. I am 10000% sure there will be way more BEV options in 10 years when I'm in the market for a replacement. IF I was in the market now, I think I'd be forced into a Rivian.

I refuse to go back to ICE or entertain a hybrid/EREV. It's pure BEV or nothing. If nothing good exists in 10 years, then I'd rather spend the money to fix/repair the Lightning until something does come by.

I have a 24 Flash, and right now I'm thinking I'll start looking at a replacement around 2030. As I need 240v out, this limits my options. If Rivian does 240v out then I'll go with that for sure. As of now they do not, so I'm looking at the Cybertruck or Scout truck. I guess if GM is still making the full size truck in 2030 I'll look at them, but right now I'm assuming they won't be selling it.

If I were to get some extra space I'd consider getting a fun car and keeping the truck around for truck stuff. I do a fair amount of truck stuff but a lot of the driving I do could be accomplished by a GT350 or a C6 Z06.

If extra space isn't in the cards and I was looking at a new EV truck with what's available today I'd kick the tires on a Scout.

Scout was going to be it but it looks like they might also be going the EREV only route.

Hopefully I have quite a few years before I need to figure that out. So many things will have changed before I get there, so not giving it any thought. When I bought my Lightning in early 2025, the Lightning was the only truck that had any real consideration.

I really wanted the Silverado with the max range, midgate and flex tailgate but I couldn't justify the asking price. Once I'm nearing the end of my lease I'll check my options on the used market. There's also the matter of how often I'll use those features. I also didn't like the omission of CarPlay & Android Auto. For 90+% of my use, Lightning is as good or better choice.

Other possibilities I was or am interested in: Slate, Telo, Scout, I know the question is about BEV but I might want the Scout with Harvester, RAM REV or Lightning EREV but I suspect the last two will be stupid expensive.

Every day in the Bay Area I pass a handful of Lightnings used by companies and local governments. Kaiser, Turner Construction, PG&E, City of Berkeley and a sole proprietor construction folks. That doesn't answer your question, but I'm reminded of the usefulness of the Lightning.

Rivian is +$100K out here. Have not looked at Silverado. Lease ends on my 24 Flash next March so in the new year will assess.

I love my Lightning Lariat. That being said, I love the tech and ride of my wife's Rivian R1S. I am leaning towards an R1T if they ever get self driving. As for the bed size There isn't much difference. I have the retractable aluminum bedcover so my bed size is about the same as the Rivian. I like the range of the GMC Sierra Denali EV with the max pack.
