Ford App: Charger Not Activated?

I basically rely on public charging to get about, mostly through ChargePoint. However, trying to activate literally any ChargePoint-based chargers through the Ford App fails. Is anyone else having this issue?

This doesn't happen with any other charger, and even though I'm physically there and can activate it through other apps, it only fails to initiate through the Ford App.

Hmmmm, another Canadian with P&C issues.

Another member is having problems with Ford App not honoring his request to switch on P&C, I wonder if your and his issues are related ?

What version of For App are you on? latest are 6.16.0, 6.16.1 and 6.17.0

Just updated to 6.16.1 yesterday, but it was happening before I updated as well.

Again this is only affecting ChargePoint chargers and not anything else which is very weird. Haven't seen anyone else on here or on Facebook having issues with initiating a charge through the Ford app

Most times you're better off using whatever companies charger app for any discount they may give like Tesla does. You won't get that discount thru Ford app.

Reliability-wise as someone who relies on public charging to get around, ChargePoint is best. Blue Oval is just convenient, without having to pre-load money into an account.

Hopefully this can get fixed sooner than later.

I agree with RLXXI. If not not able to charge at home, you need to enable tesla charging. Where i live, anything but tesla is 10-15 cents more per kwh and vastly less reliable. The tesla monthly charge is easily recouped if you regularly charge outside the home.

Agreed. I either charge at home or I use Tesla. I've long ago given up with the lower reliability of the competitors.

The reality is that the most reliable or least expensive public charging depends on where you are. There is no universal answer. In many areas, but not all, Tesla Superchargers, with membership, are cheapest. In some areas, ChargePoint is awful. In many, it's great. ChargePoint isn't the owner of the location or chargers though, so maintenance can be an issue, whereas IONNA, EA, and Tesla own their chargers.

The reason you can't find that charger is because it's NOT NETWORKED. ChargePoint app shows them as "Status Unknown".

This issue is with the owners of the chargers, NOT Ford app.

It's chargers I've constantly used for the past three years. Unless all ChargePoint chargers decided NOT to work through Ford. In which case, yes, it's a Ford issue.

I guess I'll just contact ChargePoint support as well.

I was looking at the location you show right above Port Severn. Those locations show as Unknown, they're in Coldwater. Apparently not those nor the ones SW of them, shown also in the picture, are what you are referring to.


Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre in Midland has 2 chargers per ChargePoint. PlugShare shows the last check-in in Sept 2025. ChargePoint shows last used 3 days ago. Ford app shows them, as FREE.

If they're not free, then the reason they're likely failing to activate is because the Ford app believes they are free, maybe?

On a few occasions I have used a ChargePoint L2 station near home - mostly for testing. It's hardware that requires activation before you can even unplug the cable from the pedestal. I have used both the ChargePoint app and the Ford app to activate a session. Never had any trouble with either. Last time I did that was via the Ford app three weeks ago.

ChargePoint doesn't do P&C here. Only Tesla and "Ford Charge" which is dealers I guess? Never seen it. Anyway it's not P&C related.

I have had success using the Ford app to activate ChargePoint both L2 and DCFC but not recently and not at that specific location of course. ChargePoint has a WIDE variety of installations so it's hard to make generalizations about lol.
