We have a model Y and this may be our next EV but we'll see what is available by the time we are ready. The Y is a pretty solid vehicle for us

I am so confused. RAV4 is the number one selling vehicle in the USA?
My parents have been working with their Toyota dealership for 4 months trying to get a RAV4 to replace their prius with 200k miles on it. There's still no estimate on when the dealer will have any on the lot. Every single one is sold as soon as it gets there and they're stuck on a long waiting list.

NGL, I don't see a ton of profit at these price points, and I hope Rivian survives it. I think they'd be 'running on fumes' (yes, I see the irony) if not for VW's $5B cash infusion. If they don't make enough per unit, they'll burn through whatever's left and there will be no R3 (or Rivian at all). Fingers crossed they've figured out how to make money by now, though... I hope they make it as a brand (even if I find their styling cartoony and overwrought).

Let’s not forget that Rivian is a software company as well and there is a profit center in leasing/licensing their software elsewhere (like Scout).

Based on the performance, price and overall value of the R2, the software side the fact that gasoline is going “to the moon”, I just bought some Rivian stock for the fun of it (before the war affected gas prices) and it’s been on a decent run.

starting price will be approaching 45k in 2027. we are talking fully loaded launch edition for under 60,000. autonomy, tow package. it's a great value.

JMO, I believe that Rivian has shown enough promise, and has actually produced a profit, that it would be able to raise additional cash if needed. Or at worst sale a part of themselves to another company. A friend believes Apple would be a heavy suitor for Rivian if that was what was required. Apple is feeling the Chinese heat as well.

Perhaps, just not sure their cumulative cash burn of $24 Billion thus far is sustainable if R2 isn't absolutely perfectly rolled out, received, and bugproofed...

Some rumors are that the ai nonsense won’t be infecting the Launch vehicles. If that’s true, I’m more interested now that I know the approximate price points.

Still not buying it. I haven't seen one EV pickup that sold for a price even close to the one quote prior to launch. $60k for a mid tier model is more likely

I appreciate that the Admin wants us to look at other EVs but

The R2 is an SUV only, no truck is being offered.
They dropped the S & T designations as well. Just R2 and R3 now. They have not announced any plans for a truck beyond the existing R1T.

Beginning in 2025, they started producing the Gen 2 R1T which has a few technical improvements. But still the same truck. The 2026 added native NACS. Starting price $80K. They had a $73K LFP option but announced yesterday it is being discontinued.

The color choices for R2 are boring.

I'm on the fence with the R2. I was hoping 350+ range or a max battery pack option.

The EV tax credit would really help Rivian and their price point.
