General Motors was previously expected to roll out a wave of new, lower-cost electric trucks and SUVs, including successors to the GMC Hummer EV, Cadillac Escalade IQ, GMC Sierra EV, and Chevy Silverado EV. The new models were set to enter production around the 2028 timeframe, but sources now indicate that the proposed next-gen models are unlikely to arrive before the 2030 calendar year.

Despite the delay, General Motors will continue to produce its current electric truck portfolio at the Factory Zero plant in Michigan. At the same time, The General is reallocating resources toward other propulsion strategies....
Well the wait is over for new low cost EV trucks and SUVs from GM. No competition to drive their development. No more fun EV trucks for us in the near future to compare with the Lightning.

That leaves an market opening for Ford's new UEV platform, the RExEV Lightning and Hyundai's RExEV truck in the 2030 time period.

The flip side is those were the expensive large vehicles, whilst the industry is turning attention to affordable smaller vehicles. So this pause is in alignment with the industry correction if GM is following suit.

At least they aren’t canceled, just delayed a few years. They’re still going to make them.

I read something similar about Scout. It looks like Terra won’t go into production until 2030, if at all.

what’s the hostility level like on cybertruck these days?

uhhh asking for a friend.
Elon will sell you all of them you like. Personally would much rather buy a Rivian even though the nearest service center is 4 hours away.

I would probably go back to gas than drive a trashcan, and I ain't going back to gas

Rivian is small. It is more ford ranger than it is an f150. Backseat leg room is non existent compared to our trucks.

And still far better than the Tesla trashcan.

Lots or people are buying Rangers, Maverick's, Colorado, wtc over F150 sized vehicles. Love my Lightning, but it's still driving a barge in parking lots or any slightly confined area, and a tight fit in most parking spots with associated door dings etc.

My lightning needs to last at least 5 more years. I think at that point, we may have options. Ideally, from ford.

I am truly at a loss to understand what our big three are thinking. It has been nearly a decade since the Chinese started showing their ability to produce low cost, high quality electric vehicles and our legacy OEMs knew they were coming. And yet all they did was stick their heads in the sand for nearly that entire decade.

These guys are going down hard if they think they can stay afloat selling gas guzzler solely to the domestic market.

This whole situation makes me want to spit nails. Edit: (To maintain political correctness, I removed ‘spit bullets.’)

Perhaps they know something we don't, like a new battery tech on the horizon.

To me, it is clear that the Big 3 are leaving the EV world behind, and that we will see imports take over. If Rivian continues to strengthen and the R2 launch is successful, they will gain share. But Toyota is coming on strong.

If Lucid offers 240v power on their upcoming 50k models, that will be my go to if I am forced to replace my lightning. Regardless, I'm still interested in them for my kid's first car in 5 to 6 years. I have little faith in the big 3 right now.

IMHO, highly unlikely. The Chinese are moving incredibly fast on the battery side. BYD and CATL are demonstrating cars with 5-6 minute charge speeds. Not just demos, but they are going into production.

Changing a battery system is not nearly as big a lift as a full design. NMC to LFP batteries, are very different in voltage curve, voltage, and current requiring many changes, yet this has happened quickly repeatedly. So IMHO a new battery tech isn't going to prevent OEMs from moving forward if they want to do so.

What we are seeing is short term profits and stock bumps over the long term good of these companies. They all know, the government will bail them out for their short term greed, and greed of the shareholders. The call will be "too big to fail" just like always, followed by the reach into everyone's pocket except for those responsible.

Happy Earth Day! Never buying Toyota... Toyota has lobbied against strict emissions standards and EV‑mandate‑style policies (such as California’s Advanced Clean Cars II), framing them as “unrealistic BEV mandates” and “existential” threats to its gas business model.
Not to mention its CEO wearing a dump shirt at Toyota’s Fuji Speedway in Japan.
