Dealers make money off of repairs. Ford can make money off the parts. So right to repair could work fine for Ford especially if they have monopoly on specific parts. If the Lightning taillight that goes for $2K, cost Ford $100, selling cars would be like selling printers and parts would be like ink cartridge. Selling your data on the side wouldn’t hurt either.
I’m well aware. They tried to up-sell me things for the lightning without realizing it didn’t need an oil change or transmission flush recently. Hopefully the guys in the forscan thread are well into controlling what is sent to them. I’d like something closed loop on the data side.

Instead we get an EREV and this tiny compromise with a small bed, and I'm not interested in either.
FWIW, I don't believe the EREV will come to market, or if it does, suffer the future of the BEV Dodge Charger. Battery tech is advancing slowing in the US,. No the case for the rest of the world, That advancing battery tech , and that will.leak into the US over time. Meanwhile, it takes Ford 4-5 years to produce a.major overhaul like a EREV, It's not like Ford can pull off the shelf parts to build one Nor do they have a platform ready for EREV. Add part supplies have to design parts, get vetted, and then creat and spin up their own production. Same with the 2nd and 3rd tier component suppliers. And let's not forget all the lawyers, contracts, and approvals that goes along with all of this. Then physics says, the available electrical power from the gas engine is likely to be rather limited without a large gas engine that then basically becomes equivalent to a gas F150. That doesn't touch the extra complexity and extra maintenance.

So IMHO an EREV will be too little too late if it doesn't get cancelled before production. I actually believe it likely there is no design of it happening at all, as Ford knows all the above, and it would just be wasted resources that could be recorded as profits and higher stock prices for all the golden parachutes. Ford rather just keep making more and more expensive ICE trucks anyway.

Pretty much. They’ve shown and the market has to this point that they want more expensive just and the market absorbs the ridiculous costs. I don’t think the erev outside of what exists , pretty much the bmw I3, will show up in the us market.

Sort of the same as the plug-in hybrid market. All of the ones with any real electric range have no real world application. Of course they’re designed with the urban centers in mind. The silly thing is that taking mass-transit, walking, e-bike or scooter is the only real way to travel with economics in mind. So I don’t buy it. I also don’t buy how they all (the ones with real electric range) are all very similar. The Prius has a 16kw battery pack. My insight with a fomoco can manage 400mpg with the engine running the entire time at twice the distance as the Prius electric only range. Where are you going to charge the thing too? Your 12th floor high rise, that must be a record length extension cord.

We (Lightning owners) are not the target demographic for this. Bums me out that ya’ll want to hate it before it is even here. We need EV trucks to be competitive in the market to average folks. I commend Ford for this effort and hope it is hugely successful.

Incorrect. I WANTED to like it. I WANTED it to be a path forward for me. But I also wanted something more Ranger size, and not a mini that is likely poor charging (because better charging costs more), etc. I prefer smaller trucks. But this just is not looking good. I will give it a chance, but it's not looking good at this point. JMHO

I just pulled the plug on any SLATE Truck order...
even though I was excited when it was first introduced...
and made FIVE reservation deposits...
one for Dad, and one for each of FOUR sons, potentially...

but, alas, now that they have finally come to the 'ORDER YOUR SLATE' moment,
I'm not so excited anymore.

You can only 'start' a Pre-Order, meaning that you are not really ordering anything,
you are just putting yourself IN-PRODUCTION-LINE, calendar-wise, and with an additional
$250 NON-REFUNDABLE pre-order requirement, even though you don't yet know the PRICING
for all the options, OR the Delivery charge, etc. Some of the 'extras' you can customize the
vehicle with don't yet show details of what they really are, or any PRICE... oh well.

and, since my LIGHTNING, with 70,000 miles is QUITE the comfortable and smooth and roomy
ride, I really see no reason in moving 'down' in size, or 'down' in range, or 'down' in comfort, or
'down' in roominess, or 'down' in power', or 'down' in towing and weight capacity, etc.

My sons will likely rather purchase a Brand New CHEVY BOLT, with greater range, or a Brand New
Nissan LEAF, with greater range and comfort, for possibly LESS COST.

oh well

maybe a 'Ranger-like' FORD EV truck will eventually arrive...

I have no doubt they could beat it, but that’s not gonna be a thing. Ever wonder why all the plug ins have a certain electric only range? Why the reasonable evs all have about the same range? I don’t because it’s obvious. Nothing is going to be released that will help the consumer unless you get on one of those rare mistakes. Our lightnings, vw diesels, gen 1 insights, there’s a few but not many. If it doesnt help the shareholder it’s not coming friends.

There is a reason the F150 is the best selling vehicle for decades...But Farley knows best.
I sympathize with the guy. He's looking at BYD vehicles that are simultaneously cheaper to make, have more integrated technology, and charge 10-80% in like 10 minutes. Those vehicles are going to disrupt every market they're allowed into. The technology is killer, and the companies are nimble enough that they'll be able to adapt offerings to our markets once they're allowed in.

We (Lightning owners) are not the target demographic for this. Bums me out that ya’ll want to hate it before it is even here. We need EV trucks to be competitive in the market to average folks. I commend Ford for this effort and hope it is hugely successful.
Yeah I don't really get the outright hate. And I don't even think F-150 owners writ large are the target market here. The series-hybrid design makes the most sense for the SuperDuty line, for which it's very compelling on paper. As with ALL of Ford's electric moves a big, big risk is dealer support.

I love my Lightning. A next gen version would need only two major improvements: significantly better software and a more affordable trim to drive sales. I was very interested in what the T3 was shaping up to be before they cancelled it.
To be completely honest I find the software fine. And I think Ford recognizes that trying to significantly improve the classic 20+ module non-zonal software system is a support and integration nightmare, so they're not going to bother that much. What I really want to see, and sadly it's probably going to take like five years at best, is a Lightning that charges as fast as the BYDs.

If we purchased vehicles based on logic and needs, this electric Ford Santa Cruz makes a ton of sense.

unfortunately vehicle purchases tend to lean towards emotion and wants. give me this please. I have zero need for it.

I saw one of these today for the first time (maybe I had blocked out the memory of it's hideous visage).

Please, please, please don't let the new Ford look like this Suburu. It's what I'm afraid of though.

GM does make an equivalent EV with Silverado Trailboss. But it weighs something like 9000 lbs.

While I’m a Baja fan, I’m glad the new Ford will look more like Maverick than a Baja.
