Also, I wish people would stop using the term "castings" when referring to stamped or forged parts.
The "uni-cast" process referred to when saying castings which is a virtual clone of the method used by Tesla "giga cast" is High-pressure die casting and definitely not stampings. So casting is 100% acceptable from a terminology standpoint

Another reason not to want that vehicle. I'm not an Apple fan. Too restrictive.
Isn't this only for navigation? And didn't they already confirm Android Auto and CarPlay?

The news release I received as a HEADS UP, indicates that Android Auto will continue as an option for us Apple haters, Google Maps would be our navigation tool via AA.

If I understand correctly, the Apple Maps is replacing FORD NAV in the EUV platform, it would seem that is not dependent of having an Apple mobile device, though I might be wrong......

Apple and Ford today announced that Apple Maps will be integrated directly into Ford’s upcoming Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) Platform in 2027 enabled via Apple’s new MapKit for Automotive SDK.

Here is what it means for future UEV customers:

  • Seamless Embedded Navigation: Beautiful and easy-to-use navigation experience powered by Apple Maps directly to the vehicle’s displays — including natural-language turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic, detailed place cards, and smart routing.
  • Intelligent EV Routing: Smarter EV trip planning and more seamless charging by linking mapping data directly to our battery management system for pre-conditioning.
  • Next-Gen BlueCruise: A more seamless on-ramp-to-off-ramp experience with the next-generation of BlueCruise hands-free highway driving, thanks to road-level information from Apple Maps.
  • Customer Choice: Customers will continue to have choices and can interact with their vehicles example how they prefer. They can easily connect and use Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
As Ford CEO Jim Farley put it Ford is “… giving customers the ultimate navigation experience alongside our Ford app, a full suite of software, and next-generation BlueCruise, all enabled by a new zonal architecture. Apple Maps has delivered a world-class product, and we’re honored to be among the first to embed it directly into a vehicle, helping define intuitive, capable driving.”

I hope the "rapid over-the-air update (OTA) capability" will be retroactively applied to our Lightnings. On the other hand, they don't mention "successful" OTA updates. 🤔
It reminds me of SpaceX Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly ....
Ford Rapid Unsuccessful Over-the-Air Updates.

Will be interested to seeing what's on offer, even though it's probably not for me.

The new truck has a unified software defined control system like Tesla and Rivian which allows for more rapid software updates. The Lightning has scores of individual modules from different manufacturers.

Just saw the news on Ford From the Road. Why do I feel like Ford is going to drop the ball on this already. Loosing faith. I hope I’m wrong and it’s a hit.
