I can turn it off, but it seems like the AC always tries to be on. For example, Saturday at 7:30AM, the truck has been outside all night. Truck reports that the outside temp is 64F (cooler overnight). I have the climate control temp set to 70F. Start driving and the AC comes on, cold air coming from the vents.

Can I modify how the AC works via Forscan? I generally prefer no AC, except July and August (Maine).

I have the 12" display, knob climate controls.

Thanks,
Steve

There have been many threads with the same complaint. The consensus seems to be to make turning the AC switch off as part of your startup routine. I hope someone eventually finds a better workaround, my seaching through Forscan and the Forscan spreadsheet have come up empty.

I 100% agree with you that the AC switch should act like a mechanical switch, off is off and on is on. The move to electronics and screens to control everything with manufacturer defaults is annoying AF. I appreciate my Pro (similar to your XLT) for having more knobs and switches, but they are still all controling electronic controls that default back to whatever Ford thinks it should be.

I noticed the same thing today. May be silly question, but do you have preconditioning set for the cabin?

In my ford pass, it’s under energy/departure times/my departure time/cabin comfort.

For whatever reason when I have it set to “cool” it will have the vented seats and fan blowing heavy despite the outside temp.

Mostly no preconditioning for me during summer months. It defaults to AC with or without it however. When I use preconditioning during the cooler months there is sometimes AC on but with warm air to dehumidify/defog/defrost the cabin.

No preconditioning here. Sounds like I need the habit of shutting it off. Thanks all!

Set climate to auto, set temp dial higher than what you have it set at now.
☝This is the answer. Unless you have some reason other than your comfort level just leave it in auto and adjust the temperature up or down depending on how you feel.

the truck is designed to RETURN to any climate setting you used at your last drive - IF you don't turn OFF the system before you turn off the truck.

sometimes, too, the system is not using the compressor, but simply moving the outside air to inside the cabin, and 'seems' like the a/c is on... if you leave the FANS on.

Returning to the previous setting despite the temperature already lower than set sounds like a design flaw to me.

Take it off AUTO, to regain some control of the system. I have the opposite problem, on both 2022 LER & 2023 LER the damn HEATER comes on, whether in AUTO or Manual modes. I have to constantly check & re-check it, especially as the days get cooler (I'm in Texas, so we're not talking cold 90% of the time). Absolutely the most screwed up HVAC system I've ever seen in any vehicle I've owned.

I live in Oregon and our summers are pretty mild, so I’m generally driving around with the fan on and recirculation turned off, but like everyone else if I turn my truck off in this configuration and then turn it back on I get AC. It’s a software logic failure and extremely annoying. After 10 months of driving the truck I’ve trained myself (or more accurately, Ford’s software developers have trained me) to turn off the cabinet conditioning system fully before turning off my truck.

I agree that the HVAC system in Ford vehicles is not that smart. Recently had a Cadillac rental and the vehicle turned on the heater, heated seats and steering wheel when it was cool (low 60's in the morning) and then in the hot muggy Midwest afternoon switched to the AC and seat ventilation.

my solution is to turn the temp up or down as soon as the system finishes booting. I have noticed if I adjust too soon it goes haywire and moves to max heat or max cool. Is better when I remember to remote start the truck, but I do not always remember to do that.

Ya, I would like to frequently JUST Have the fan Blow, NO Heat, NO A/C, just fan to circulate the air, still haven't quite figured it out....(not willing to spend a lot of time testing/figuring it out...)

It is the one thing I really dislike about this truck.

I run the system on manual 99% of the time. I mostly like it on my feet and Auto is all about mixing it across vent locations.

I always have to monitor AC or Heat icons. I set them right after startup along with what temp I want to run. Not long after that either or sometimes both are on again. I think I found if I have to turn them off a second time they stay off. And moving temp up or down will control them too.

So much for manual settings of this HVAC system
