I filed early April and still haven't received my refund. My dealership was never set up for the ECO Portal and refused to do it even though the window opened up again. It shows the tax return was received but refund hasn't been approved. I contacted my representative in congress and they said to file by paper, and if I'm owed anything (which I am), I will receive it.

We have a couple members who filed returns on paper, they're also waiting.

It may take some time for tax examiners to review the non-conforming claims, I hope you get the credit, but fear the rigidity of bureaucracy and poorly designed process that did not account for exception situations which might cause the claim to be denied.

Here's hoping pragmatic examiners are assigned to your case, sooner the better.

If it is denied, exercise any & all appeal rights you're given, you may need Congressional assistance if the appeals fail as well.

I always paper file. IRS can’t leak a bank account they don’t have and it keeps someone busy entering data rather than auditing. It is generally August before the check arrives.

This was the email response I finally got:

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. In order for your vehicle to qualify for the credit in 2024, the seller must be registered by the IRS as a registered dealer, they must provide you a copy of the Clean Vehicle Seller Report (Form 15400), submit the time of sale information in the IRS Energy Credits Online portal, and the vehicle must qualify for the credit. Please note that this is a voluntary program, and dealers may choose not to participate.

Thank you,

Alethea

Have you received a 'printed' communication by US mail yet?

Who is the dealer? Maybe they collected the incentive and decided to keep it. I had to threaten legal action and the dealer finally complied. Refund check arrived this week.

Not yet. I preemptively sent an email to them months ago with my issues. They just responded with this.

The way it's worded sounds like I'm out of luck.

I did threaten them but no response.

Most likely, I'm curious what if any appeals right you will be given, the email doesn't sound like any are available, but you may be surprised. Worst case you file suit for deceptive sales practice and restitution for injury of losing out on the $7500 credit.

Would this be through small claims court?

Most likely depending on the local law limits of value for small claims, (I'm not a lawyer)

@Ford Motor Company please consider suspending the right of sales of eligible vehicles (F150 LIGHTNINGS) by dealers NOT participating in the Federal incentive program, their behavior has sullied your reputation.

All Members considering a purchase demand the point of sale credit, if the dealer can't deliver, walk away.

My dealer wouldn't do the POS credit, but I wouldn't leave until I had IRS Form 15400 in my hand proving the sale was properly reported for me to get my credit when I filed (which I did successfully). I didn't even have to push for it, I may have mentioned the credit to them, but the manager submitted the sale while I was doing other paperwork. He even printed out screenshots of the IRS portal at each stage to show that he did it right. Mine was only the second time he's done it (very small dealer) but he was already set up and familiar with how to do it. He said he pays attention to all the emails he gets from Ford.

So if you can't get the credit POS, I think it's acceptable to leave with Form 15400 since there's little chance you won't get the credit at tax time.

I missed out on mine. I don't think that dealer registered the truck with the IRS or maybe they took the credit for themselves. For some reason our taxes were a nightmare this year and by the time it was kicked back, I was all out of energy from dealing with it all and just wanted it to be done. When I purchased the truck last year I did not realize that I needed a form from the dealership or otherwise I would have ensure that I had it before I walked out.

Go back to the dealer and ask them to do it. IRS opened a portal for them to submit even though they were supposed to do so within 3 days. I had to push hard, but my dealer finally did it. Get the form and file an amended return. It’s your money.
