Hi all, the time has come where I need to change my brake pads. I wanted to see if anyone else had experience yet with the brake maintenance mode and make sure I am taking the right steps to put it into maintenance mode and take it out of maintenance mode. I think it is pretty standard for any f150 or expedition but wanted to confirm. I am especially interested in whether these are the right steps to exist brake maintenance mode on the lightening.

Entering Brake Maintenance Mode (Service Mode)
  1. Ignition On: Turn the truck to the "On" position without pressing the brake pedal.
  2. Activate Controls: Press the accelerator pedal to the floor and hold it.
  3. Engage Parking Brake: Push the electronic parking brake switch down and hold it.
  4. Cycle Power: While holding both the accelerator and parking brake switch, turn the ignition off, then immediately back on (within 5 seconds).
  5. Confirm Mode: The parking brake light will flash yellow, and a "Park Brake Maintenance Mode" message should appear on the dash, indicating the calipers are retracted
Exiting Brake Maintenance Mode
  1. Ignition On: Turn the ignition on (engine off).
  2. Activate Controls: Press the accelerator pedal to the floor and hold it.
  3. Release Parking Brake: Pull up on the electronic parking brake switch (instead of pushing down) and hold it.
  4. Cycle Power: Turn the ignition off, then immediately back on (within 5 seconds).
  5. Confirm Exit: The flashing brake light will stop, and the message will disappear

thanks!

What I want to know is how many miles on your truck and you tow frequently?

Mine still look new after 30,000 miles of 2-pedal driving.

My 2022 just had the 30k service. My pads were still like new. I’ve always used opd.

Wait... I've never heard of this mode. Are you saying that the calipers will retract to the open position? I won't have to manually depress the calipers?

Nice feature!

What an archaic procedure. Very on-brand for Ford.

Compared to releasing the brakes via UI:

For the OP: based on my experience with the now-sold Mach E Mustang, there is a technical procedure in FDRS (the Ford software for technicians at dealerships and at independent mechanic shops) for resetting the appropriate software after successful brake bleeding on basic brake component replacement.

The details now escape me, but I did deal with this while doing "something" on my Mach E back 2+ years ago. I am pretty handy with auto tools, yet after research I decided to let the dealership handle this FDRS procedure while considering a DIY. AFAIR it had something to do with resetting the brake-related software module after bleeding the brake system so that it functioned safely after the job. Again, it's been long enough that details escape me today, but considering how critical the braking system is for safety...

If we assume the F150 Lightning has a similar need within FDRS for a related software reset after brake work, I think You might want to investigate this before starting Your brake work.
