Okay guys, i was able to make a modified version of the C4 dock that uses the 90-degree lightning coupler we devloped for the C3X dock. It is 8mm longer in a few spots, but you will never notice. We only have 9 of these 90s left, so it will be first come first serve on the docks with intergrated couplers. It doesn't make financial sense for us to order more 90 degree couplers, so once the 9 we have are sold out, you will just need to use a 180 degree coupler, which we have plenty of in stock.

Perhaps I'm missing something from a previous post, but where do i go on bluepilot.dev to order this?

What's the difference between the "standard mount" and the "8 degree" mount...other than the obvious...8 degrees? Trying to order the mount for the comma that's currently on B/O.

it actually doesn’t matter for a comma 4 because there is only one mount type. But the order form will let you also order a dock for a 3X, and for that one, it matters. Vehicles with steeper windshields like trucks needed a mount with 8 degrees of slope so the camera wasn’t pointed at the hood when installed.

I got my Comma 4 last night @Ajzride was a huge help and great resource. It's amazing I'm super happy with it as a first time Comma user.

Any problems with mounting left of center on the windshield? I thought they needed to be dead center to track the lanes properly. This could make things a lot cleaner with my dash cam.

if you mount it offcenter, then it will hug one line badly. You need to center it and relocate your dashcam.

That’s what I assumed but that photo sure makes it look left end of the mirror. Maybe it’s just an illusion.

Indeed an illusion because the picture is taken from the drivers seat and not dead center. If a picture were taken from the rear middle seat, it would look centered.

for a 2024 Lightning, do you lose anything from going to a Comma 4 from a Comma 3x? I thought I heard somewhere the Comma 4 is still so new that the software for 3X is still more mature? Sorry, I'm completely new at this

They control the same, it’s the same chipset, it’s just different screens. The 3X has a lot of cool stuff you can display while driving like battery status, stops signs, road names, speed of vehicle in front of you etc. can’t put any of that stuff on the tiny C4 screen.

I have a 3X I haven't installed yet, I've read that the C4 has better thermal management, I'm in the Southern US and it gets hot in the summer... if you were me, would you get the C4?

The thermal management is more about being able to run bigger more complex models, but I'm not sure if they will ever be able to do that. When the car / AC is off, I still wouldn't leave the C4 on the windshield. I live in Houston and I always pull my device off the windshield when the car is parked in the sun. I designed a quick-release dock to make taking the device out super quick. The C3X mount is now open source and you can build it yourself, or I can make one for you. The C4 dock will go open source after i sell 50 of them and recoup my development cost.

I live in SWLA and no shade for the wicked. I also leave for work in the late afternoon. I've got a C3 in a Corolla which has overheated maybe twice in 3? years of ownership and a C3 in the Lightning since last October, I leave mine plugged in despite having @Ajzride fantastical sliding dock. It definitely will overheat and it takes ~3-4 minutes of driving before it boots back up.

I would be willing for the thermal management alone, but losing the ability to check the speed of cars I approach before I get to them made it a hard pass. One of my favorite features.
