Got back from our DC trip today. Truck did great, average of 2.3 mi/kWh with some decent travel speeds, but unfortunately she took a little battle damage.

1) Wife was parking in a parking garage and scraped a pipe hanging from the ceiling. Thankfully no glass damage.

2) While charging at New Jersey and getting lunch, came back to find this on the rear driver's quarter panel. Only thing I can think is someone backed into me and then drove off. Tried to clean it up and this one is well down into hr metal.

Still thinking through what I want to do for repair options...

Edit: almost forgot I picked up a windshield crack from a rock as well!

Sorry for the bad experiences, heartbreaking to see this especially with your custom graphics.

I'm traveling to DC in early August [Enrolled Agent training], what hotel/garage, hopefully it's not one I'm heading to, though I am trying to go by motorcycle but if weather is crappy i'll go by Lightning.

The hotel was fine, no issues there. Residence Inn near the Navy yard. The parking garage was near the National Mall, not sure which one but they all had low ceilings.

I am hoping the graphics can actually save me and I can work with the vinyl company to come up with something to add to them to cover it up that looks good for cheaper than repainting the panel.

Not sure what to do about the roof. It is pretty much impossible to see from the ground unless you are 7 ft. tall, so I may just to touch-up, unless I can come up with a graphic icea for that too, don't want to pay for that repainting either! Heck maybe I will just wrap everything above the belt line and cover it all over. (Like the heritage edition package Ford offered). I have seen a few trucks like that and I like the look! 😁

You will have to ask your hotel. Most garages that I am aware of in DC (I work downtown) will not accommodate the Lightning as the clearance is generally between 74 and 77 inches. In this regard, the truck is 77 inches tall.

There is a garage at the corner of 21st and L Street NW that will accommodate a Lightning. Clearance is 84 inches. Access is the alley next to 2120 L Street, NW.

Thanks for the heads up, the garage I'll be parking at has 8'2" clearance, there is a huge open parking lot adjacent to the hotels in the National Harbor section (MD) as well, looks like I'm good to go.

"That'll buff right out":)

kidding aside, that sucks. The first ding is always the worst ding. The decision tree is always comes down to some questions one asks themselves:

Is it really that noticeable?
How long you've owned it - I know if it were a week old, I'd spare no expense to get it looking new again, but maybe after a year or two, I might be less inclined to go all in on repairs.
Will it buff right out?
Functional damage vs cosmetic.
Does it add "character"?
Will I be using the truck in situations where it will incur more battle damage (construction site etc.)

At least those are the things that run through my head. Good luck!! And update us with pics of the healed beastie!

I did similar to the top of my current ICE F-150. I paid $1000 to a bumper repair guy who did the whole top, and some bumper flaws. There were some previous marks from the prior owner that had to be corrected too. That sucks and is painful to look at. Sorry.

If you have time and have not done so previously, I encourage you to come over to the Virginia side and see our historic sites in Fairfax and Prince William Counties. We have Mt Vernon, the Manassas National Battlefield as well as Old Town Alexandria.

Have any pictures to share of how it came out?

See attached pics. Some before and after. There was some overspray on the black rubber around the skylight which wasn't great, but it's the top, so I didn't bust his balls about it. The top is dirty now, so it might not do it justice. The scratch I had, was down to the metal, and started to rust, but barely, so that's when I got it repaired. The roof is rarely seen, so it's easy to leave for another day. The other blemishes on the top were a prior repair by the selling dealer (1 year used) that were most likely from a short garage ceiling as well. Done by prior owner who is/was somewhat famous in the music industry.

Easy to leave it for another day when it's on the top and out of sight. After pics the top is dirty, so it might not do it justice. There was a little bit of oversprey onto the black rubber, which I did not bust his balls about. Because it's on the top, and i'm the only person that's ever going to see it.
