No change to the plan for next-gen vehicles.
NOTE, folks:

(1) The *Lightning* F150 electric platform is as *always* going to be a limited duration production (which shoulda been obvious to anyone familiar with Ford history and the Lightning designation), and

(2) The next gen platform (which is not an ā€˜F150’) was *always* going to replace it.

Any implication of confusion otherwise was brilliant posturing by Ford, allowing it to seem long-term serious about getting into the EV truck game (and ā€œfirstā€), by stuffing an F150 with the guts of an EV (despite the un-economic results).

The Lightning (this, and past ones) designation has always been Ford’s loss-leading, short run, future-looking test case to bridge the gap of development.

Let us hope they do not make a grave error and stop producing the Lightning. It would open the door to the Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, Hummer EV and last;y the Cybertruck. (Also Rivian).
Everything you mentioned (maybe Rivian has a prayer) is likely on borrowed time too. The public has very clearly spoken on full sized EV trucks for the foreseeable future. People can blame Ford, GM, the government and most anyone else, but in the end the consumer can and has made the decision pretty easy. Businesses aren’t charities and this unfortunately isn’t a sustainable business model at this point in time

Three year owner here....Bought my lightning at the start with no incentives and a heavy markup. Love the vehicle and don't want to go back to gas myself, but regardless my family will have one of each. I'm going to be real though...Charging during vacation time is still a hassle mostly. Heck, We went out of town this weekend and charging was kind of a hassle. I don't mind it myself but my wife still hates to stop and charge. There aren't enough chargers for the mass of folks to convert to ev currently. Charging still isn't fast enough for the mass of people to go ev currently. We just aren't there yet for the mass of people to convert.

Ford currently sells the most popular EV pickup truck product in America. Pickups are one of the best selling categories of vehicles. The future is EVs. The future of pickups are EVs. Slowing down or halting their program would let everyone else catch up. What a bad idea.

Guess what the largest market share disruptor in automotive, Tesla, is doing? Getting better and better at EVs.

Guess what Rivian is doing? EVs. Only EVs.

Guess what up and comers Kia and Hyundai are doing? More EVs.

Guess what category others who want to get into EV's are starting with? Small pickups.
Key words...SMALL pickups

2023 Lightning Lariat owner here... Had a 2025 F-150 Lightning Pro (fleet) order that was placed in late June 2025.

Originally given a build date/week of November 5, then November 18 due to the aluminum plant fire, and then it moved again to 12/15.

Yesterday our dealer informed us that our 2025 F-150 Lightning Pro order needed to be cancelled, and they were instructed to re-order it as a 2026 model, with first available build slot in March 2026.

Just one data point... Hope it helps.

I see your point, just hope that the EV trucks can be here to stay.

It would be unfortunate. I was not a Mach E fan when it released. Turns out Its a FANTASTIC car. Especially for a first attempt.

I dont think most people realize just how much range 200-300 miles is.
I have no problem with that car at all. As you said, great option for a lot of people. My problem with it is the name they put on it. It is NOT a Mustang let alone a Mach. Ford ruined two hallowed nameplates with one stone. What a bunch of idiots.

They should have named that car the Probe. Would have been the PERFECT time to resurrect that name.

Right....but the Lightning is still a FRACTION of ICE F-150 sales, as in less than 5%. And, ALL of those other vehicles you mentioned combined don't equal ICE F-series sales annually.

Saying that the "future is EVs" is very premature. There is enough crude oil in the ground to last many decades, and there still isn't battery tech out there that will power a full size truck 500 miles on a charge AND charge 20% to 100% in 5 minutes. Until there is, EVs will not be the future.

That's where ford should've started imo but Ford was betting on the F Series nameplate to sell 100k units/yr and they bet wrong. The Maverick has sold well and I don't suspect many of them are towing or taking it on long road trips which is the primary argument of ev detractors. This would've also lowered the barrier to entry and likely gotten me butts in seats. In reality, I suspect most half-ton owners would be perfectly fine with a lightning but there's so much fud surrounding evs that you aren't going to get the average person to fork over 60-80k in 2025. They also didn't do themselves any favors with the lack of advertising and clueless sales people.

It's always appeared that Ford loses money on each Lightning sold. It just makes sense for any business to cut products that don't make a profit and concentrate on products that do. So be it, in 5 -6 years I'll worry about what's available

I think the Lightning is going to stick around, its a wonderful vehicle. As one that had a Silverado EV RST switching to the Lightning has been a great experience. I think that this vehicle is far beyond what the Silverado is and Ford should realize that and keep it alive. Only think the Silverado had was range advantage, but face it sitting at charger waiting due to such a large battery is not something I enjoyed.

Just ask Fiesta/Focus owners how TCM warranty support is going.
Ford extended the warranty. My understanding is it's a flawed design. Presumably, the extended warranty got the affected vehicles closer to the end of their normal useful life.🤷

Just saw on CNBC, FORD is talking about not restarting Lightning production.

If they would have marketed it with commercials instead of just having in the background. It would have sold. I never saw one tv commercial talking about power, range, and other. They decided to let the myths be the truth in buyers minds.
I just read from AI that they have plenty of inventory and due to fire at plant, and this pos president with tariffs, aluminum is high so.waiting to come down so focusing on hybrids and other gas hogs for.now. they know they have something good with thr lightning. Once we get back to a normal.state, if ever possible after this regime, im sure they will lower prices liked they discussed, etc etc etc

Let's not forget the Lightning is a transition vehicle designed to bridge the gap between traditional F150 ICE owners and EV. It has done that very nicely and most of us love the truck.

EVs will not go away and will continue to grow in popularity. Ford knows this.

The news is only reporting one aspect of the plan. The next generation will be coming - timing is dependent on the market, and I'm pretty sure Ford has thought this through. The next generation will be called something else. In the meantime, I'll keep driving this awesome truck and looking for what comes out next.

Right now, we’re focused on producing F-150 ICE and Hybrid as we recover from the fire at Novelis. We will bring Rouge Electric Vehicle Center back up at the right time, but don’t have an exact date at this time.
Thank you for replying.

I ordered my lightning several weeks back with a planned build date of Nov 28th.

This was going to be, and hopefully still will be, my first truck.
I've been extremely excited buying various accessories for it.
I really hope Ford doesn't kill it.
