According to an article on Ford Authority dated November 15, Ford Lightning sales plummeted during the third quarter.

https://fordauthority.com/2023/11/f...umbers-figures-results-third-quarter-2023-q3/

What is not clear from the article is to what degree were Lightning sales were affected by the shutdown of the Rouge Electric Vehicle plant for six weeks beginning in mid-June while the factory was being expanded. At the time Ford still believed that Lightning sales would remain as robust in the future as they had been through the first year of Lightning production. Now it appears that the expected sales have not yet materialized.

This is old news even though it's dated yesterday. The writer cites 12 thousand odd Lightning trucks sold in quarter 3.... Lets remember that quarter 3 runs July 1st to September 30. Ford had roughly 20,000 Lightnings sitting around until they started shipping them out again in very late September and all of October. Basically the next set of news articles will say "OMG Lightning sales skyrocketed in Quarter 4 2023!" ?

Bad timing with the plant expansion pause and then the follow-on delay in moving newly built trucks to market, the forum is/was filled with anxious anticipation of trucks pending delivery, if they had moved these custom orders just in time, the numbers would have been better.

Thanks for the data. I can see that the June-July shutdown of the Rouge Electrical Vehicle center resulted in a doubling of the production of F-150 Lightning afterwards.

Yes, but with the slow down in orders and EV centric commodity constraints, they have slowed down in recent weeks, the factory demonstrated the ability to run at a pace of 150,000 builds per year, but has since ramped down until the market stabilizes.

I haven't gotten data on build week 11/27 yet, hope to see some samples this weekend.
MY23 production finishes Sunday 12/17, then the line rolls over to MY24 on the 18th.

Here's some more detailed numbers:
https://insideevs.com/news/694422/ford-f150-lightning-us-sales-october2023/

Lightning sales are up nearly 40% year over year.
I wish Ford could sell a lot more Lightnings.
The greater scale they can achieve, the better long term for everyone.

If you own a Lightning, you know it is a very good vehicle (depending on your use case).

If Ford gets great scale, can lower their cost, it is win win. In late 2025 they should have their Gen2 coming out, which should be even better.

I think the media is trying to read too much into the tea leaves when with small numbers forces unrelated to EV adoption skew the results. There was a Platinum that sat on the lot near me for a couple of months, but it could not even be test driven because it was waiting for a light bar fix. As soon as that was done, it sold even thought I thought the price was insane especially as it did not have the fancy seats which are the only reason for getting the Platinum.

There was also a Lariat SR that sold as soon as they dropped the price by $7500 (it is in my profile picture). Those were the two on the lot. It looks like XLTs are starting to come through but they seem to sell pretty fast around here, I never got to see the inside of one.
