Ford to Offer Complimentary Tesla Supercharger Adapter to Eligible Lightning Owners (1/31/24 Update)

FORD TO OFFER COMPLIMENTARY TESLA SUPERCHARGER ADAPTER TO ELIGIBLE EV CUSTOMERS

Last year, Ford announced that its EV customers would gain access to Tesla Superchargers across the U.S. and Canada beginning in Spring 2024. As that moment approaches, Ford President and CEO Jim Farley said today that eligible Ford EV customers will soon be able to reserve a complimentary Fast Charging Adapter.



The Fast Charging Adapter will provide Ford F-150 Lightning, and Mustang Mach-E owners access to Tesla’s V3 and above Superchargers. Ford will start to transition to the NACS charge port from 2025, removing the need for an adapter for direct access to Tesla Superchargers.

Note that we are going to be able to "reserve" an order...we all know what that means. Those who bought 3rd party will likely be able to charge with theirs before we do. I've seen no indication that Tesla will prohibit 3rd party adapters yet.

If you want to reserve an adapter it probably depends if you are in a CARB state or your dealer prioritized their friends. Also they will start with lariet and above ......

I was hoping this would come with some type of extension. Using this alone at most Super Chargers will be a bit of a challenge due to charging post-placement. Pulling forward, you will end up using the charging position intended for the vehicle to your left for the back-in locations.

Tesla is changing post placement on new installs there are more options for pull-through.

Beyond my scope of knowledge, but what is to prevent someone from now making and marketing an CCS to CCS extension that you could plug this adapter into then plug the extension into the truck. Only needs to be about 3'. If it is a pass through could it be detected so that charging wouldn't be allowed?
