Seems like it would be feasible to build an adapter that can work with V2 chargers. This seems like a cop-out by Tesla so as to maintain their monopoly advantage of their charging network to help sell cars.
Whatever the means the chargers and Tesla cars use talk to each other, (wireless, CCS protocol, proprietary) it seems like it could be possible to build an adapter that makes itself look like a Tesla vehicle to the charger, makes itself look like a CCS charger to the vehicle, and makes the right handshake requests so that the charger provides the right DC voltage/current.
It’s tesla’s own network and hardware. Why shouldn’t they be able to monopolize it however they want?

Well, we do have anti-trust laws in this country that make tying two products together that way illegal. Cannot use dominance in one product (charging network) to further their competitive advantage in another (vehicles).

Remember when Microsoft got in trouble for trying to make their browser the exclusive browser on Windows and locking competition out? Same law.

There are probably some big challenges with the v1/v2 sites that make it just not worth it at all to try to get them working with CCS. There is probably so much that needs to be replaced to get it to be working that it just doesn't make sense to do it.

How hard would it be to spoof another truck's VIN and get free charging? ;)
Theoretically possible, but that's a level of hacking that few can achieve. Do any teslas still get free charging? I know they stopped offering it a while back, but don't recall the details for the super early adopters. (pre facelift, right?)

Some do, and it wasn't just early S and X. They offered it for a bit on the Performance 3, then once or twice for other very small periods of time as promotions since then. So not many, but it has been known to happen a few times over the last years. The net result is small numbers of cars that end up with it.

No, no. That is not the same at all.

A spoofed VIN in this case means someone else gets charged for your charging. VINs aren't exactly private there are tons of them ready to be scraped off this forum alone, not to mention they're kind of sequential so easy to guess once you have the make, model, features parts figuted out. I wonder how long before it starts to happen that people do start modding these adapters to spoof VINs and get others charged for their session. Ford has already given all my fordpass points away because someone in a state I've never been to gave my email address to the parts guy. One good reason to NOT use plug and charge is Ford can't be trusted. Plug and charge is convenient, but ultimately it's ripe for theft.

Related but not necessarily anything you don't already know.

Tesla is already extending the cables. Why would you design a product that will be obsolete almost immediately? Makes no sense.

Would love to here more explanation than just a naked denial.
The exact same law applies. Microsoft was leveraging its market dominance in operating systems to stifle competition in internet browsers.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Microsoft_Corp.

We all know Tesla leverages exclusive access to its fast charging to increase its car sales over tee competition. Probably the number one reason people say they want a Tesla vs other EVs is for access to the charging network.

Not just my opinion:

(this discussion is probably too deep into the politics of it for this forum).

Almost immediately?

I haven't read of Tesla extending the cables on existing V3 chargers. V4 chargers have the longer cables. Most chargers we will be using are V3.

So what's "almost immediately" to you? A year? 2?
