Testing out a 2023 Lariat from Carvana. I just had a pre purchase inspection and it states that the axel seals front and rear are leaking. and there is also some rust spots forming on the suspension. There are a few thousand miles left on the bumper to bumper warranty (and I plan to purchase the ESP warranty).
Should this be a deal breaker or is it reasonable? I assume that would be covered by the warranty, correct? I'm just not sure if I should be concerned or not. Everything else looks real good

I seem to remember surface rust is somewhat common but I suppose it depends on what specific part.
As for the leaks I wonder if they are referring to the gearboxes (front and rear). If you happen to search you should try "axle" instead of "axel" ;) .

It seems somewhat odd, was inspection done at Ford Dealer? Assuming not or you'd know the warranty question/answer. Negotiate to take it to a Ford dealer to be inspected for potential abuse that would void warranty.

I'm generally leery of 3rd party "we buy your car" dealership vehicles without knowing some minimal history - that said if price difference vs buying the same truck as a certified "used" dealer vehicle covers the cost of the ESP then risk is minimal. Pull a CarFax and see where it was originally sold out of and any history.

not a ford dealer. It’s is a trusted auto shop and friend. I’m going to a ford dealer tomorrow for an inspection.
the first Ford dealer I took it to had no idea what I was talking about and only inspected the tires and breaks. I almost lost my mind.

My rear axle was leaking after like 10k miles or so, but Ford replaced it pretty quick so it didn't bother me. You should be still under warranty so they should just replace it

my rear driver axle was leaking at over 42,000 miles, but Ford dealer replaced it, and it was at no cost: it is part of the 8 year/100,000 mile POWER TRAIN warranty...

also, it is common, if not typical, for the rear axle 'heads' to quickly 'rust' and look like there is a problem, but it is only superficial surface rust, and not any issue... we all have them. They are like this from the factory.
