This past weekend I was on a 2 day trip out of town and received OTA updates both nights (Bluecruise 1.4!) while the truck was parked at my hotel. I was using their crappy charger as well. This triggered a memory of the last time I was out of town a few months ago, when I also received an update. Then I realized that the difference was that my truck was parked outside. Apparently, at home, when I park in my garage, the truck is unable to receive OTA updates.

So, for any of you not getting updates and wondering why, perhaps you just need to leave it outside one night. Hope this helps someone.

I added my home's wifi to the truck. May the truck being connected to my home wifi (rather than it's LTE connection as I believe it uses) stop OTA updates from happening? I have pretty good wifi coverage all over my house and property.

I also have my truck 'connected' to my home wifi but that doesn't impact this situation. I am thinking they won't use wifi for updates.

I'm a radio guy. Depending on the construction of the garage, can have a substantial effect on how well radio signals get into buildings. Something we deal with at work regularly.

Agree with K6CCC, I can't get my Lightning into my garage but my 2012 Leaf is in there and it would not receive the AT&T signal inside - the AT&T signal was weak in our area to begin with - when we had AT&T phones we often had to be outside to use them. 5G is even weaker at penetrating things (walls ceilings etc).

So you discovered that updates have to be done outside

Another factor I found was the battery (12V) has to be at 85% or so for some updates to install, and having the truck on a charger will charge up the 12V battery to reach the 85% threshold if it is below that.

If you have one, the Ford Charge Station Pro will get updates via the house wifi - sometimes you have to 'force' it to by cutting it off for a minute or two then restarting it (with the house breaker).

OTA updates are better than having to go to the dealership to get them, but still a few wrinkles.

Since this happened on out of town trips, it could also be the result of the 12V battery getting to a higher state of charge during the longer drive.

Yes, the 12v battery level has been an issue with installing updates among quite a few forum members. Having a HV charge session lasting an hour or more will generally top off the 12v.
I schedule my updates for 5am and my charging is usually between 1am and 4am or so.

I just noticed a on my truck software update screen that a frunk update did not complete...not sure why...no "update pending" message of "update now" either. It was an update from April 2025 I believe...strange.
