Despite rumours of Ford axing the F-150 Lightning, evidence unearthed by CarExpert suggests the full-size electric pickup could live on for a second generation.

Information posted on LinkedIn reveals several Ford employees (info since pulled), working out of the company’s headquarters in Michigan, are currently working on a ‘Gen 2 F-150 Lightning’.

The Lightning is expected to join the next-generation F-150 range, slated for release in late 2027 or 2028 – alongside new Super Duty models for the North American market, according to projects listed by Ford employees.

It really wouldn't make sense for Ford to have a Gen-2 Lightning and the "T3" electric truck that will be the same size. They would steal sales away from each other and they are already facing an issue of potential low volume. Sure, some buyers may prefer one over the other, but I doubt Ford will spend the money to develop, produce, and market both.

It may be that Ford is spending some resources developing a Gen-2 Lighting just to keep the possibility open as a contingency plan in case they axe the T3 or the market shifts drastically.

GM has the Hummer, Sierra, and Silverado..you can argue they’re different nameplates, but sense it does have not make it.

T3 is also the internal project name. They very well could be one and the same..

I’ve been looking at the newly posted Scout videos on the YouTubes. I’m just saying, I don’t hate them Terras.

However, Ford - if you’re reading this. Just give me a sign brosef, I give you the deposit for the T3. Even a mild improvement to the Lightning is already a massive improvement. 😃

Now let’s not start using common sense and deductive reasoning. This is a forum of fan boys for Christ sakes…😉😂🤣

Very true. Paper studies are pretty cheap and call also help build/retain skills.

This proves nothing. Maybe they entered those LinkdIn profiles 2 years ago? Could easily be old information that hasn't been updated since the recent developments.

The Hummer is a different beast altogether. Having GMC/Chevy clones (although the EV trucks are somewhat different) works for GM because doing both gives more sales channels for the product (number of dealers) but they also try to position GMC as more upmarket. With Ford the trucks would be sold side by side.

It may very well be that employees informally refer to T3 as Gen-2 Lightning since it's likely Ford intends it to be the evolutionary replacement.

I also think that since T3 is designed from the ground up as an EV truck it's likely to be more efficient and less costly to produce than essentially retrofitting the ICE F150 like the Lightning. And it's probably going to be a much better product overall with few disadvantages over the Lightning.

With everything Farley has said about the market and profits of making an $80k EV I've wondered what the future of the Lightning/T3 will be. So far it seems they are moving forward with it. But it's a questionable business case it seems.

Then why immediately pull the information off their profiles now? If they were 2 years old, I would say the horse has already left the barn.

T3 is a compact pickup. lightning is a full sized pickup. These are two different markets.

Source? I have never been under that understanding.

The new small pickup coming out on the Universal platform is not T3. They are different.

I just really like my Lightning. I could suggest ways to improve it, but a battery-powered Ranger or Maverick would not do it for me. I rode in mybrother’s new Rivian pickup. It felt clausterphobic plus I need at least as large a bed and my German Shepherd needs all the space in the rear seat (folded up so he has space) area. Better software though would be nice.
