Well, I was expecting to get atleast 45K miles out of OEM tires. This is how they looked back in March with around 30K miles. Currently at ~35K miles and I'm down to about ~6/32". They tires still do well with dry traction and light rain but holy shit, the hydroplane resistance has gone down exponentially with so much tread left. Its been raining often here in Atlanta, with some areas getting well over an inch. With standing water, the truck feels like its on ice and much more susceptible to hydroplaning. I don't remember my Michelin LTX MS tires doing this on my ICE truck with the same amount of tread left. Any suggestions before I give up and just buy the Michelins? I was planning on replacing late fall anyways when I reach 45K.

I had those as OEM on my Sierra and had the same thing happen. I swapped them out for the Falkan Wildpeak AT2W or AT3W. I’d buy the Michelins because it’s not gonna get any better.

Hydroplaning is mainly a function of tire pressure. The formula to figure out what (approximate) speed a vehicle will hydroplane is V=10.35*√p, where p=psi.

If you run 42psi your vehicle will hydroplane on standing water at about 67mph. At 35psi it's about 61mph.

I suspect any difference in handling has more to do with wet grip than hydroplaning. Doesn't really matter what the reason is though. If your tires don't give you confidence it's time to replace them.

This.. Those 4 contact patches are your only connection to the ground. If you're going to spend any amount of money, it should be on your tires. You should also have full confidence in them in any conditions.

I have those same tires and I'm ready to replace them with something that I feel more comfortable with. I've experienced the same hydroplaning and it's frightening!

I'm looking for something All Season that rides smooth and will last a good bit. I'm not sure where to start.

Definitely the Michelin Defenders LTX M/S2. Theres no doubt about it; its the best tire you can buy. Look them up on tire rack and you can see how they stack up against the competition. Very good wet and dry handling qualities. Its the only tire I have ran on all my trucks after the OEM ones wear out.

I've heard them mentioned here and I will look into them. Thank you!

I found them more as a Summer All Terrain sports tire.

Just remember this is not an ice truck. This truck weighs what a F-250 SD 4x4 diesel. Make sure you get a load range to accommodate its weight and payload. Else tires will wear quick or overheat and fail.

Yes I always felt the 115T tires that came with it were alittle too soft. I think the 116H will be acceptable.

I've always thought about this on any tire that I contemplate buying. I haven't checked yet, but how do the Michelin Defenders LTX M/S2 rate with the weight of our Lightnings?
