Anyone use a cargo box on their truck?
I have a large Stowaway brand box that I put in yesterday.
I think the truck thinks it’s a trailer, even though the screen says “no trailer detected.”

My GOM is at 79%, but is showing 120 something miles. The cross traffic sensors in the tail lights are recognizing something is back there.
Just wondering if there is a way to tell the truck it’s a cargo carrier and not a trailer?

Never mind, I just took it off and got my miles back. I can find room for the stuff elsewhere.

I didn't think it would have that much of a drain on the battery, about 50%.

Did you drive it enough to see what the actual effect was? Other posts indicated a rear box wasn't a negative.

You can go into the settings and turn the sensors off or maybe something in the trailer menu. Select no active trailer. You can fit quite a bit into the box, maybe a cap to keep things out of the elements and stack easier.

I drove a bit, no long distances. I even unplugged it to see if that would change things, it didn't.

But as soon as I removed the numbers came back. I think the cross traffic sensors on the tail lights were telling the truck a trailer or something was back there.
I kept "getting cross traffic alert disabled" when starting up.

Yeah, i turned off the things I could, but it didn't help.
I do have a topper, so I'll just throw the box stuff in there.

You are confused.

First, the GOM (Guess-o-meter) is an estimate of your range. Changes are not a loss or gain of range they are a prediction.

Second, if the truck senses a trailer, it will adjust the prediction to 50% until it learns. You have not lost any range, the prediction has adjusted.

Third, if you read your manual, you learn that you should add the carrier as a trailer so that the sensors adjust to it being there. When you connect it, go to the trailer screen and select what you previously added (Carrier), and it will use that profile. As you drive under that profile, it will adjust the prediction, realizing that a 50% hit is not accurate. This will take some time. But you haven't lost any range...

Ok, thank you, that's good to know. Once again, the manual never comes to mind. I just hop on here thinking it will solve all my issues...Lightning issues.

So, if I just drove it, like Grumpy was talking about, over time it would figure out what's back there and then adjust accordingly?

I guess I was impatient since I'm heading out on a little road trip today.

All good information, thank you.

It seems crazy to read the manual, I know. I mean it only explains how the $50,000+ truck works and all that. Totally crazy.

The problem with the manual has been finding what you need easily.. Thankfully AI helps with this issue and can get you what you need just by asking...
