I think it will work, but like you, I want to be certain.

I had to replace my fob last month and went with thelockdoc.ca after seeing a few folks mention them. They were quick, and the pricing didn’t feel like a ripoff compared to what the dealer wanted. Plus, they got it programmed on the spot without any hassle, which saved me a trip.

Apparently, from what I've read, the truck can only have four fobs in total at a time. So if you make two spares, you couldn't add another OEM one later without a trip to the dealer. Seems like a dumb artificial limitation to me but that's what I heard. FWIW
My neighbor lost his F150 when the dealer tech programmed another key to his truck and stole it the night after it was serviced. It was recovered after a high speed chase and crash - the dealer techs girlfriend was driving it.

On my trucks I’ve filled all 4 slots with programmed fobs. When I pick it up I make sure all 4 of my fobs work.

So I was careless and lost one of my two key fobs. Local dealer said about $450 to replace / reprogram of which $165 was for the programming. Purchased a replacement fob for $110. Site said still have to take to locksmith or dealer to program / cut the emergency insert key. Any idea if there is a process to program the fob ourselves?
I just had a spare madde with a lock smith here in Georgia for $200, key cut and fob programmed with only one original.

I don't know if there is a consensus.

I bought an Aliexpress one for my "third". It exists so I could reprogram a replacement myself if I lose an OEM one. It doesn't have the frunk button; it has a remote start button instead, but otherwise seemed to work fine.

$140 CAD for OEM doesn't sound that bad, really.

If you're going the aftermarket route, make sure you get the correct frequency. Apparently it changed for at least some 2024s. You can confirm what your vehicle uses by looking at the FCC ID on your existing key fob.
I assume that the remote start button is non-functional?

No, it worked. Started the climate at least. I assume it's the same as pressing the start button in the cab without your foot on the brake, but I didn't test it in detail since I don't plan to actually use that fob.

It would be nice if somebody made a fob with both the remote start and frunk buttons.

Oh, wow! I had assumed there was no way to get remote start without using the app, the fact that the remotes with remote start instead of frunk button can do it is great to hear. At least it can be done, just with a trade off.
