Just a bit amused. Charged to 100% last night as I was doing a longer drive today. Got in this morning and my Lightning was feeling it's electron volts and decided it was a LR.

This is actually the highest meaningless number I have seen, but though I have been getting 235 estimated range at 80% recently. Always has been 220-221 max at 80% in previous summers.

Funny thing thought, I did my trip (secondary state highways with moderate elevatoin changes at mostly 50-65 mph),and damned if I didn't get 2.8 mi/kwh and had driven 147 when when I hit 50%. This is my third summer with my truck, and yes that helps, but I was running AC because it was in the low 90s today, and was not conservative on speed. I have not previously seen these numbers. I'm beginning to wonder if Ford hasn't done a background update to unlock more battery capacity without charging what's displayed when using a scanner. We know there must be additional hidden capacity, as batteries degrade, but we are seeing very little or no lose of range for the most part. Just is very odd for there to be this change after 30K miles all while going over the same ground in the driving style.

Has anyone else noticed anything similar?

Your conservative driving is giving you higher numbers.
Windspeed also plays a big factor.

That's not it at all. You missed the part that I have done this same drive MANY times through the hills of NW Arkansas, and have never gotten this. Same thing is happening in my weekly commute. Also no changes especially with school being out. I CERTAINLY haven't slowed down on routes I have drive literally thousands of times.

Yeah I noticed the same thing since that last gateway module software update came thru saying something about it improving accuracy in the way the truck reports consumption or something along those lines, a lot of folx over in the Mach e forum are reporting the same or similar increases.

Last time I charged to 100% the screen said I had 325 miles of range (supposed to be 300 for my ER battery), granted most of my driving is urban/suburban with hardly any hwy driving, but it's never read that high at any time since I got the truck back in June of last year.

It seems for me my mi/kWh improved dramatically near overnight. For example, my usual trip home from work traditionally netted me 2.3 mi/kWh. Since midsummer, this has somehow increased to 2.7 almost routinely. HVAC blasting Max A/C (it’s humid in GA) and a 40/50 mix of surface and highway corridors.

My Mach-E has had the 3 recent updates. I changed from the stock tires to Michelin Cross Climate 2s. It's been hot.

I log each charging session, and note the miles per kWh achieved (gross x 93%). Here's the before and after, which throws cold water on this theory...., but is in no way scientific.

Last update in that series received 6/30/26.

Before updates and before new tires:

6/15 - to/from grocery store, 15 miles - 2.86
6/2 - to from library, 11 miles - 2.325

After new tires, before updates:

Only one measured charge, got 2.75 which included highway driving

After new tires, after updates:

7/9 - to/from grocery store, 15 miles - 2.32
7/15 - to/from library, 11 miles - 2.25

We may be doing a trip in the next few months that would be pretty identical to a previous trip, for which I have records, so that would be interesting.

I want to make it clear. Using OBD scanner, I'm NOT seeing an increase in reported capacity. But we know there has to be degradation that is hidden, but we don't know how much and how it's managed, but it MUST be there. Otherwise we would see degradation in range and measured capacity. Assuming the new values I and apparently others are seeing are real, you either have to improve efficiency, or increase capacity. of those two, allowing hidden capacity to be used without showing increased capacity to the OBDscan is the easiest most obvious.

Bottom line, I don't know. Definitely something has changed, at least for some of us as indicated by others above. Again, all depends on the numbers being reported the previous two summers and now are real and accurate.

Never seen a number that high in my 2023 Pro with the SR battery, but often the guess-o-meter says 260 miles range at 90% SOC (I rarely charge to 100% unless something special is planned).

I have seen some trips report at 3.4 mi/kWh, but usually they are mostly a downhill run back from the grocery store.

My 2012 Leaf averages 4.8mi/kWh by comparison.

Yup, things definitely seems more positive lately. My SOH has had some fluctuations in the past but has gone up from 97.5 % to 98.5% and stayed there for a long time.

I made my regular 140 mile trip and got 2.7 mi/Kwh which is more than I usually get. As far as more of the reserve available. It does feel that way. I seem to have more juice left after these trips. My car scanner readings of SOC, Energy and SOH is not consistent enough to make a scientific evidence based judgment but it certainly feels that way.

Maybe Ford changed the programming of the calculation silently to be more optimistic?

After driving my 2012 Leaf for several months I figured out how to adjust my driving style to maximize range and miles per kWh, now it is second nature for me.

I was acknowledging pointing out that it all assumes accurate numbers before and after whatever has changed.

Thinking back to the last month or so, it did seem like the guess-o-meter range had increased for the same charging level (SOC on dash usually 85%-90%), and I don't think I drove any differently...I tend to ignore the range prediction so I didn't pay much attention to it.

Since my driving is all local short trips anyway, and I have been driving electric since 2011, I don't worry about the range number at all.

I don't pay much attention. Just a gauge as to how my truck is liking its environment. The other thing when getting your maximum estimates in summer, it provides a crude gauge of batter SOH outside of the OBD port values. I almost always charge to 80%, and typically will see 220 miles plus or minus of estimated range as a maximum value some summer mornings. Everything was typical until late.June, when I got in one morning it eat.range was 233 at 80%. Have seen 235 a couple times since. Noticed but didn't think much of it. Then Saturday had occasion to charge to 100% and got the 309 estimate shown and was very surprised, which got me thinking what changed. Feel confident there was a silent update, but don't know what it did. Hence this thread
