I wonder if this is the cause of a perceived "PAUSE" in further distribution to those of us still waiting?

That’s a good question.

I don't know the details of the crashes being investigated but I won't let that stop me from speculating.

I hit a truck tire carcus while using an earlier version BlueCruise. There was no way to avoid it in the time and space available to brake and/or change course. I think it's unreasonable to ask a driver assistance system to handle a similar situation.

Presumably, someone at the NHTSA believes there was time to avoid the stationary objects in the crashes being investigated. Assuming there was time, what should the automation do?

Alert the driver? Maybe. The system already monitors the driver. Shouldn't the driver take over? Would an alert draw your attention inside the vehicle and away from the road? I don't know...

Slam on the brakes or change course? I don't think so. A stationary object in the road is a low probability event and humans who are paying attention are reasonably good at avoiding them. I am concerned false alerts would cause more harm than good.

I think the question to ask is, "is BlueCruise safer while on than while not on?" Based on my use I'd say it is, but who knows?

Yeah this is a situation that I feel is different since Ford is crazy clear that BlueCruise is driver assistance. It's why only an idiot would claim something to be full self driving if it isn't, for sure, ready for that. So long as Ford shows they have taken steps to ensure drive interaction (eye tracking), the ultimate decision on braking or changing course is down to the driver.

Doesn't mean they won't somehow find the system to be "unsafe" anyway, but I would definitely be interested to hear their reasoning on how the driver isn't ultimately responsible if it does go that way.

It would be interesting to know the statistics on its miles driven with no incidents vs the same miles driven by similar vehicles driven totally by the operator.

I image NHTSA has those statistics, but we’ll likely see them.

I don't know the details of the crashes being investigated but I won't let that stop me from speculating.
Story said:
The February crash happened just outside San Antonio. A 1999 Honda CR-V was stationary in the center lane of Interstate 10 with no lights on at around 9:50 p.m. CT, when the Mustang Mach-E crashed into the back of it.
At least one seem like it was an accident waiting to happen, BC or not.

I've been using BC quite a bit lately due to longer trips with family and BC has some weird quirks.
For example, if you get cut off by a larger vehicle it starts swerving in the lane. Lane centering is much better with a clear road, smaller cars ahead, but if its "view" is restricted it starts ping-ponging and when you get cut off like I did it does not just ping-pong but swerve to the point where I'm like "whoa, better take control here".

Going around a corner where there's a turn lane for oncoming traffic almost triggered what felt like a collision alert, it was only for a split second but it was weird.

Looks like NHTSA is looking harder into the BC 1.4 system Ford has delivered.

Hope we don’t lose what many of us have just received.

Elon took out, (fired, let go), most of the people within the agency investigating Tesla’s FDA system and its malfunctions. Did he leave the ones who investigate Ford’s and GM’s FDA systems alone?? Just wondering.
What a mess the DOGE team made and left behind. Definitely we did not SAVE a dime.
