I haven't been to a Ford dealer for service in 11 years. Today I took my 24 Flash in for the Upper Control Arm Ball Joint Nut Replacement Recall. I also had them look at the drivers side tail light - it has heavy condensation inside.

They didn't have me sign anything when I dropped it off, which seemed odd.

They didn't call me when it was ready - they told me it was done when I called them. They let me know that they ordered a new tail light and that it would be at least a couple days. They offered to keep the truck and let me know that I was free to pick it up and bring it back for the tail light.

When I picked up the truck I was focused on checking it over for door dings, etc. When I got home I noticed that Ford Pass still shows Recall Incomplete. That's when I realized that they didn't give me any paperwork to show the recall work performed.

Is this normal? Maybe I'll get the entire set of paperwork when I get the tail light installed. Maybe it takes some time for the recall notice to clear from Ford Pass?

But to your question: yes there is normally paperwork showing what the tech did and what, if any, parts are used.

Agree. Tell them you want a copy of the ticket for your records.

Did they say the ball joint nut torque was in tolerance? I'm still waiting for them to get the new steering knuckles in since mine were out of spec and have to be replaced. Yesterday makes a month.

They may be keeping the repair order open until the part comes in and they replace it. Then they will give you the paperwork covering everything

The service advisor said it was at the proper torque so they just installed new nuts.

If someone was working on the control arms of my ~7000 lb. truck ... and torquing my new nuts ... I would demand to have paperwork to document what was done and who did the work.

I'm pretty sure you will get the complete work order once it's closed, when I had the tailgate light bar replaced, they took in the truck, held for a day or so did some mandatory FDRS updates and confirmed the light bar needed replacement, so placed they order.

They called me to say that it would be several days to a week before it came in, my options were to drive the truck now and return or leave it with them until all requested services were completed.

I decided to drive it pending the arrival of the lightbar, handed me my keys and off I went.

When the part came in, scheduled a second visit to install the lightbar, once finished I got the truck with entire history of what was done from the original drop off date to the close out of the work order.

It took several weeks before the software items dropped off Fordpass.

I have had the same "no paperwork" experience at multiple local dealers, as well as the same lack of communication the dealer.

After leaving feedback in a post service survey, I received a copy by email.

It is very frustrating that our service departments are not transparent with the work performed on our vehicle!

Dealership has always given me a receipt showing me what work has been completed even if it was Warranty.

You are correct! The new tail light was installed today. The service advisor gave me the paperwork for the taillight and the recall before I asked for it.
