Good afternoon guys and gals. I was side swiped on the back of my f150 2024 lightning platinum and started into a spin across the highway on June 30th; while spinning I was hit by a corvette and continued my spin followed by an abrupt stop due to 1 pedal drive; the truck would not turn back on.

The police cut the harness; the damage has been deemed cosmetic and no frame damage however it has been in a shop for a month and sitting on a lot because they can not roll or drive it; damage the motors; so it took 3 weeks to get a harness and that didn’t restart the truck.

Then the truck was shipped to a ford dealer nearby; they used the FDRS to reprogram the truck to see if it will drive - it didn’t do anything; so now they ordered RCM module and have to replace that - it will be 6 weeks without any fixes; the insurance company will not total it yet since it is 3 months old; if the RcM is replaced and FDRS can’t clear the memory by Tuesday they will have to get new sensors for the airbag electronics and then possibly go into the high voltage battery packs to fix it; don’t know how far they will go but this crazy.

I will keep u posted on additional news that I find out; there are tons of error codes; so it will take time to figure out the ford ev specialist said; they don’t do this very much so it is new to them they said lol

This needs more details. You were in an accident with 2 separate vehicles that caused the truck to spin but the only damage was cosmetic?

Here are the pics of the accident- according to the collision center it was considered cosmetic without structural damage; however the can’t get it to work

They cut the harness for safety reasons- that is what they said; I wasn’t going to challenge them.

Typically with most ICE vehicles when the airbags deploy, it's a total. Probably not the case with these trucks so long as there's no frame damage but it is most definitely not cosmetic lol.

Glad you are OK, that was a serious accident involving a beautiful Lightning. Can you provide any additional information on which cables were cut and where?

What harness did they cut? I thought the high voltage disconnect is in frunk near coolant reservoir?

Have a chat with your state’s insurance commissioner or similar. Many states have laws as to when an insurance company MUST total: some are that repairs are 70-80% of the current value. I forced a moralization of a new Toyota RAV4 by a complaint to the insurance commissioner. Insurance company had a complete change of heart and paid me more than I bought the car for and they paid it immediately.

It would be wise to print these out, laminate them, and have them in your truck.

As a first responder they will cut the first responder cable if the vehicle has one.

The Lightning has one under the frunk by the coolant tank. If the vehicle doesn’t, they will cut the 12 v battery cables or use a disabling plug in the EV charge port.

This is part of standard procedure to stabilize the vehicle for patient extrication, police investigation and tow company operations.

Nobody wants a vehicle to start moving unexpectedly or for additional airbags to deploy when someone goes inside to retrieve the insurance card.
