Note, Ford does change how it treats the battery based upon the output rating of the charger. L1 does not really do anything for the battery, around 30 amps it does slightly warm the battery when charging, and for my 48 amps it brings it up to 60f every time when charging.

I expect preconditioning is similar

does it work well enough to avoid battery damage if parking outdoors below freezing while connected to an L2 at 48a ?

Yes, when you keep the truck plugged in to a Level 2 charger the truck will take care of itself.

ABC = always be charging

The manual recommends among other things, always plugging in your EV if the temperature is at or below freezing and using the departure setting to warm the cabin and battery. (See High Voltage Battery section)

FYI, very bad things happen around -20F where your battery can freeze - the liquid portion of the battery stops transporting charge. At those temps your truck needs to be on or plugged into a power source or inside a heated space.
