Now why do you want to try and get this off-topic with that comment? I'm still in BSA and proud of it's impact on young men and women. Have counseled over 200 Eagle Scouts and they are what give me hope for their impact on the future.

Let's not stir something up here. There are other forums for that.
I jest but I was in the scouts. Loved it. Our troop wasn’t really a merit badge generator. All our scoutmasters were our dads and they were all Vietnam vets so it was more like a Special Forces q course. We humped ruck all day, rain or shine (I learned the phrase “If it ain’t raining’ we ain’t trainin’” way earlier than most), spelunked, became land nav specialists and became expert climbers and rappellers. Set my brother and I up for success in the Marine Corps as we were already well acclimatized to that environment.

BSA was just very out of context. Relax. It’s an Internet forum, not the UN.

Sorry about that then. But as you are aware, there are folks that take aim at the organization now. And they start by questioning if/why someone is still in scouts.

We're still off-topic and I'm fine if @TaxmanHog just delete these posts.

It was out of context, but it was the truth and I felt I would give my 2 cents on the current topic.

While I personally have never directly counseled Eagles since I only been a ASM for ~2 years, seeing these scouts grow and mature is very rewarding for me personally.

Anyway, I degress...

Great info - as I stated I'm aggressive and typically stay ahead of the pack and avoid clusters; so I am learning here my results (without habit change) will be on the low side: but my wife will appreciate if the Lightning slows me down a bit!:)
The truck batteries and motors will last a million miles. Drive it like you stole it and charge at home. Win/win

Any facts, ideas, experience is appreciated.
Maybe not a fact, but... it is a safe bet that you will find the Lightning to be, hands down, the best vehicle you've ever owned. Once your family learns how shockingly comfortable the ride is they'll never want to go back to a loud, rough ICE vehicle for a 4 hour drive to Dallas.

(I frequently do a 380 mile round trip in my XLT SR. Could I take the ICE and not have to stop to charge? Sure. But do I do that? Never!)

Maybe it could be the springs and the shocks (which are different on the Platinum) but I find the ride really bumpy and all over the place. I test drove my friends BMW iX yesterday, and the ride so much smoother and less harsh.

My experience echoes everyone else's. I make a lot of 2 hour runs (each way) every month. One is all interstate and at 70 even church luvin grannies on bicycles would be passing me and giving me the finger. In Florida, 70 is the speed limit, but if ya do it, you'll become a speed bump.

When I had my F-150 Limited ICE, I'd do 85mph the whole way. I've only had Luna for 5 weeks, so I am still learning... we do 80 on that trip right now and avg 1.5-1.6 kwh p/m. First trip I was disappointed, now I am used to it.

The other 2 runs per month are all on state roads where I avg 60-70mph, depending on if I am going through a giant pine forest of nothingness or a rural, but inhabited area. I avg about 1.8-1.9 on those runs.

When combined with the city driving I do, I am averaging 2.0 over the last 1500 miles driven. I had hopes for more, but these things are as aerodynamic as a bulldozer, so it is what it is.

You're looking at 200 miles of range max when doing 80mph with the 131kwh battery, about 1.5mi/kwh. Believe me I used to drive the same way, I've had to learn to drive slowly for the first time in my life now that I have a lightning. Now 75mph is my max when doing road trips, and 70 is my normal speed.

Even at 70-72mph, i get about 1.8-2.0 mi/kwh, which translates to 240-260 miles of range. The bright side is that if you're driving all city, you'll probably get 400-500 miles out of a charge.

With 80 mile commutes and level 2 chargers, you've got nothing to worry about. Feel free to go 85mph you'll still be fine. And your 240mi trips will be fine as well if you go 70mph. I just did 250mi last weekend, and I only had to charge once. 30-40 min at a DC fast charger while you're eating lunch, and you're good to go.

If you're a fairly "aggressive highway driver", play the mi/kwh game! I LOVE how my truck can get up and go, and have had fun seeing the grins on the faces of people that I've taken on rides, but I also love trying to drive slow enough to get 2-3 on my commute. About half and half interstate driving and local city/suburban roads. You sure notice the effect of speed on that mileage right away!

As far as climate control goes - you can set a departure time and the cabin will be at the temperature that you select when you are ready to go. This saves some battery energy and means that the cabin is nice and comfortable when you leave. I believe you can even have the seat coolers/warmers come on.

In an inhospitable climate, EVs rule. We have cats and it has always been a problem in the ferry line on hot (what we call hot) or cold days when you have to sit there for four hours without the engine on because your ferry died. Now I just leave the truck on from when I leave to when I get back home. It is also great if your wife wants to go shopping somewhere and you just want to sit in the truck.

You can run the climate control for days on a full charge.

I tend to be a lead-foot. However, I live in Downeast Maine, and unless I drive an hour + to the interstate, most of the roads are two-lane, with a max speed limit of 55 (and two-lane traffic often keeps you at or below the limit). Many of the towns along that road have limits as low as 25. In summer, we seldom get to 90 degrees, but we do have some hot ones (more recently). In winter, we might spend many days in a row in low double-digits, with a few below zero.
I traded in a Model Y Performance for my Lightning in December, and was disappointed to see that most of the time I was only seeing 240 miles or so with a full charge. Once summer came, though, I often woke to see that it had charged to 320+. I originally put this down to the higher average temperature, but the fact that I had done most of my driving locally helped, too. On a trip to Boston, I found that the charge was maxing out at 270 or so. It was adapting to many hours of 80 mph driving. A week or so after I got home, the range increased again to 300+...I'm guessing because of the slower average from local driving.
I much prefer this adaptive approach to what I had in the Tesla, which was just based on guesswork. I would charge it fully, and have 300 miles, but watch as the mileage was reduced as I drove. It kind of rendered the estimates unpredictable. With the Ford, it seems like a much more reliable way to go.

Don't fear a charge stop. 240 mile trip means that one bathroom break and a slow walk around the store to buy some snacks will have you topped up enough to comfortably continue on your way.

You hear a lot about "30 minute" or "40 minute" charges, but you dont have to. There is zero need to fill it like a gas car, especially when you have chargers on both ends. Shoving 15 minutes of electrons in it will give you MORE than enough extra juice to do that trip without any worry about range.
I find that my battery has more capacity than my bladder.
