very very stupid poor design-
It most likely isn't closing all the way properly and getting jammed. Possibly the bumpers are too high.

Yours isn't a common problem, take it back to the dealer if it's under warranty.

Yup out of warranty. That's not happening. $$$$.$$ to diagnose and bandaid repair. Nope.
My brother who can take apart a 38ft motor home and put backtogether will be the next REAL repairman to work on it for me.

You did not mention if you had tried "re-calibrating" the frunk - I think there is a YouTube video about this. I think you have done 3 and 4 of this list already to no avail but maybe try the reset process?

Good Luck.

-----
1. Reset the Frunk Opening Height
This procedure can resolve issues where the frunk doesn't open or close fully.

  1. Open: the frunk fully using the button on the frunk itself or by pressing the button on the dash or key fob.
  2. Manually: lift or pull the frunk lid to its maximum open position.
  3. Press and hold: the frunk's "close" button for several seconds until a tone sounds, confirming the new fully open height has been set.
-----

2. Perform a Hard Reset
This method resets the system and may clear minor electronic faults.

  1. Open: the frunk completely.
  2. Disconnect: the negative terminal of the 12V battery.
  3. Wait: for at least 10 minutes before reconnecting the battery.
  4. Manually: close the frunk by pressing it down firmly until it latches.
  5. Attempt: to open and close it normally using the cabin button.
-----
3. Check for Obstructions
Obstructions can trigger the safety latch, preventing the frunk from closing.

  1. Inspect: the frunk and latch mechanism for any debris, dirt, or objects that might be interfering with its operation.
  2. Lubricate: the latch components with an appropriate grease to ensure smooth movement.
  3. Ensure: the frunk lid and latch striker are properly aligned.
-----

4. Seek Professional Help
If the problem continues after trying these steps, a dealer service is the next step.

Contact: your Ford dealership to have a diagnostic scan performed.
Mention: any known recalls for the F-150 Lightning frunk, as a recall recalibration may be available.

-----

This was one time the AI search seemed to have found some valid info, go figure.

Never tried that. But my issue is usually not in the winter-because I don't want stuff stuck in there in freezing temps.

Oh well, the video did say too hot or too cold temp, but yours seems to have a more persistent unexplained problem.

I would try replacing or trimming down the latch bar and maybe looking at the latch that it engages with, and see if that is the problem. If it is not the latch motor which I believe you said was replaced and did not fix the issue.

Also: I assume the 12V battery has been checked - a weak battery might result in the latch motor crapping out. And the Lightnings have experienced 12V battery issues in the past.

What about just removing the secondary latch bar? Would the Frunk still stay closed with just the first latch securely?

A last resort I suppose...

12v replaced 5 months ago. Issue still present and unpredictable. I would not think removing the safety-2nd latch would be safe. I just wish I could hotwire the computer that controls it and make it open when it gets stuck or an extension of the latch somehow offering a manual release of it.
