Spare tire question

I'm a bit confused about spare tires. Some on here have a regular tire as a spare and but a dealer told me I need a similar EV tire due to the weight.
Can I get by just buying a 20" wheel and same size tire as what is currently on my Lariat? Say, something off an Expedition or an ICE 150?

My 2024 Lariat has a 18in spare. Had to throw it on when I got a flat on the highway. Not a full tread spare, but enough to get to where you need to go. I was able to get home and plug my full size.

Im sure you could store a full size under there if you wanted.

The answer is yes. I have a 2022 Lariat and replaced the spare with a matching 20” wheel and tire so I have 5 matching tires and wheels on the truck. Also put in the TPMS on the spare.

I have a Platinum and a 22" Platinum will fit in the spare wheel well. Did not try to program TPM. Can the system actually monitor 5 wheels? I have programing tool I'll be all over that if it can be done.

Yes the spare wheel hole can accomodate a full-size OEM wheel and tire. I got one in there.

Its TPMS is "silent" until the spare wheel is mounted on an axle and begins to rotate... so there is no worry about whether the truck's display system can, or needs to, read the spare wheel's TPMS sensor until it's needed.

The answer is yes. I have a 2022 Lariat and replaced the spare with a matching 20” wheel and tire so I have 5 matching tires and wheels on the truck. Also put in the TPMS on the spare.

Did you buy the OEM wheel? There a bit pricey from the dealer.

I bought my OEM wheel on EBay... there are plenty of OEM wheels there sold by people who have upgraded their wheels to a fancy aftermarket set.

The "EV" tires that came on mine are flimsy, lightweight, and have a 50 PSI max pressure just like every P-rated light truck tire I've seen in the last 30 years. Nothing special about them. The rubber compound is also low durometer, i.e. soft and squishy like a standard P-rated tire. So, just use any tire of the correct size you want to.

Spare tires are optional on 2025+ Lightnings. Not sure if the ICE trucks are the same.

my 2025 Platinum at 88 grand didn’t. And it didn’t come with Homelink to open the garage door.

Spare tires are optional on 2025+ Lightnings. Not sure if the ICE trucks are the same.
