Tesla Destination Charger

I made a round trip Houston to Phoenix last week. I overnighted in Las Cruces N.M. at a Best Western hotel which is EV friendly. I called hotel to check on their chargers. They told me they had Tesla destination chargers so made sure I had my Tesla Tap Mini adapter loaded in the truck. Upon my arrival I found a pleasant surprise. The parking lot had 4 TDC for a total of 8 ports. Got my tap Mini and the plug was a J1772! Checked the chargers and each pole had 2 chargers with a NACS and J1772. First time I've seen a J1772 plug on a TDC.

Tesla sells the chargers with dedicated J1772 connectors as well. You don't have to buy the Universal variant that has the dock-able adapter. The L2 chargers I have at some of my commercial buildings are a mix of Tesla and ChargePoint. And the last few I installed, I used all Tesla putting in two with J1772 connectors. ChargePoints are nice too as they sell them with either J1772 or NACS connectors now and the cables can be purchased separately and swapped.

They were TDC. Two chargers on a pole with one NACS and one with J1772 port.. Each charger had the Tesla script written on it. Another sight I saw were Teslas charging at EA with their J1772 adapters.

However I don’t see it on the Tesla shop or at other retailers so they may have discontinued it. They might be available second hand if anyone is interested in one. Tesla does make some nice charging equipment - my Universal charger has been doing great so far with the Lightning.

I have a Tesla J1772 wall charger

We have 2 Tesla Wall chargers. One at our home and one at our cabin. It charges our Teslas and our Lightning with a NACS to J1772 adaptor fine.

The house one is connected to a 60 amp circuit and it charges noyh vehicles at 11.7 kws The one Cabin connected to a 50 amp circuit due to sub panel limitations. It charges both vehicles at 9.6 kws Ford reports 10 kws and 8 kws received. It rounds down so actual is 10.8 and 8.9 kws

I would have purchased a Tesla Universal Wall connector with both the NSCS and J1772 but itiming didn't work out . The first Wall charger was installed before I got the Lightning and at that time I had 2 Teslas The second one was purchased for FREE with Tesla referral points for referring a forum member to buy a Model Y. Can't beat FREE! Using the $50 NACS to J1772 adaptor has been problem free. I also carry a similar adaptor in the truck Fronk in case I need to charge on the road and the only charger is a Tesla Destination charger.
