Talking to another EV owner at charging stop about using the Lightning for backup power I heard something shocking (pun intended). This fellow EVer said that he had been powering his house with a generator through the dryer plug during power outages. This is probably a violation of the National Electrical Code since there would be a potential to feed power back to the grid but technically it makes sense.
As long as the main breaker is pulled the grid would be safe. I don’t advocate using a dryer plug to power a house, I’m just presenting the idea for discussion. I can definitely see a strong temptation to do this during a long winter power outage when families are freezing in their homes.
