My '22 Lariat has had it since '23.

Actually, I might have had it since I got it, don't recall, but an update with "Walkaway Lock" was May of 2025.

I had it from new and now it's gone. Think I know why though, I turned on the keyless entry door keypad but haven't installed the keypad yet. Pretty sure it's freaking out because I told it to look for something that's not there yet and it self disabled wal.

On April 15, 2026, my dealer graciously updated the truck's BCM module when it was in for the 10,000 mile service. This enabled walk away locks.

Maybe, If you received an OTA update recently, it could have enabled it. It could have been there already or it could have been in the OTA. I turned that feature off when I received it many months ago. I have received OTA updates in the past and some settings changed, maybe to the default..ie the Welcome Lighting which I have turned off, will all of a sudden get enabled with an OTA.

I got the Walk-away Lock on my 2023 XLT when my dealership also updated the BCM for free, about 9 - 10 + months ago or so.

FYI - my Lightning's Walk Away Lock functions well to lock, but about only 80% of the time. it seems to depend which door, and how many doors and accessory openings get closed, and in what sequence.

My self-installed auto-fold outside mirrors help in this because as large as they are, I can see from afar whether the truck has locked itself as I walk away. If not, I use the fob to complete the locking.

If it's just the driver's door which is used to exit, the truck does reliably lock on walking away. If it's a combination of front & rear doors and / or the driver's door and the frunk, the truck often does not lock itself when I walk away.

My old Mach E Premium had always locked itself when I would walk away. Oh well...

Interesting. I have set the beep to occur to confirm walk away lock, so I get an audible sign. I haven't tried it when several door open and need to based on your post.

23 lariat. Mine works almost always. I also get a text when it locks. Sometimes I get 3 or 4 texts until I use the app and tell the truck to lock. With the folding mirrors I too see that the truck locked the first time.
