why not buy one if it’s good? Ford losing your business might motivate them to innovate. Blind brand loyalty only makes them more lazy.
Oh I'm not loyal to Ford. But if they make something I like then I will buy it. The Chinese to this day don't make anything I want in particular. It took me a long time to consider buying a Korean car, nothing different here.

Dang it, just found out my inside source has been effected, hopefully Google will take him back. He was'nt surprised, he always noted their Detriot way of processing and thinking was way behind. I hope Ford will Lease Tesla software in the future just like when Toyota leased out its tech to others, after all Ford is a great hardware company and software is not in their thing.

I think you may be right.

It’s shame these @$&! $@?!! who talk a big game about more manufacturing in the country can’t see past the forrest for the trees and support the country’s EV manufacturing instead of doing all they can to kill it.

I guess that dirty oil money is way more prevalent than clean electrical lobbing money.

Sad 😔.
Right on!

You're delusional if you think that Ford would ever lease Tesla software.

A few thoughts ...
1. Maintaining systems generally requires much fewer resources than developing and launching systems.
2. I doubt that I will notice any negative impact from Ford's actions. They have nowhere to go but up.
3. Ford may have decided to outsource software development to others who are much more capable.
4. From my charging needs as a Ford owner, I did not notice any negative impact of Tesla laying off the entire SuperCharger team. It was likely that their work was done.
5. We don't need governments ... Federal or State ... pushing technologies. Governments are usually decades behind industry when it comes to technology. Let industry get the price of EV's reduced, and install more chargers. Then, more EV's will be sold via pull from buyers versus push from governments.

My opinions are worth up to, and including, what you paid for them ... nothing. 😂

Several Members of this forum: "Ford Software sucks. When I had a Tesla the software was so much better."

Ford Lays off people responsible for said software: (Same people) "Oh this isn't good!!" 😂

My bet is they are going to leverage a 3rd party platform - like Rivian’s, for future EVs. Why wouldn’t they. They don’t play in the same market as Rivian Cars.

This made me laugh from p
Interesting line in that second linked article.

“And Ford is an industry leader in software-powered over-the-air (OTA) updates. These updates continue improving customers’ vehicles long after they leave the dealer lot.”

What mental gymnastics do you have to do to omit Tesla?
Pretty sure they are focusing on ICE vehicles with that quote. When it comes to ICE, Ford’s OTA process is better than most.

When it comes to other EV brands, it sucks comparatively.

Agreed! Let's get rid of these @$&!$@?!! and bring back the guys that gave $535 million to Solyndra and paid $8 billion for less than 25 new charging ports.

I think EV's are about to be put on the back burner and then all these fools are going to be crying when the Chinese dominate the US EV market. I wont buy one but Im sure a lot of other people are going to run at the chance to buy one.
With 100% plus tariffs on them in the US, the whole rest of the world will be buying them and the US consumer will miss out...they're already selling them all over South America.

Just a reflection of Ford's decision to change directions with software development. Lots of news on that. Shocking how much money they spent on what turns out to be abandoned.

-----
"...the FNV3.X platform will mean faster over-the-air (OTA) software updates and offer “connected digital experiences,” “democratizing access to new features,” and “modernizing the industry,” with nebulous promises of “advanced vehicle security, driving, and infotainment enhancements for many more customers.”

"... creating an in-car environment designed to delight customers and improve the Ford ownership experience. These systems also deliver services and features for our commercial vehicle customers that keep vehicles on the road and help reduce running costs.... Ford is an industry leader in software-powered over-the-air (OTA) updates. These updates continue improving customers’ vehicles long after they leave the dealer lot. ... my team has been focused on getting the latest and best tech solutions to every customer. .. Our approach to technology starts with the utility and joy it delivers: if it can’t do that, it doesn’t belong in our vehicles... Software allows us to update vehicles quickly, enhance customer experience, and deliver improvements in vehicle quality. .. What will NOT change is the pace of improvements our digital teams were pursuing ... Our goal is simple: deliver innovation that makes life with a Ford better. "

Promises, promises...

Solyndra apparently took a page from the Trump handbook, or vice versa:

Operate on borrowed money (actually the $535 million was a loan guarantee not a loan but it did end up having to be paid when they crashed), declare bankruptcy, lay off all the employees, incur an FBI raid and criminal probe, but get off Scott-free, and take the money and run ( "Solyndra's owners, Argonaut Ventures I LLC and Madrone Partners LP" will "realize the tax benefits of between $875 million and $975 million of net operating losses, while more senior creditors, including the Department of Energy, which provided a $535 million loan guarantee to Solyndra, will receive nearly nothing.)
